A systemic issue
What is “Digital”?
Techniques, infrastructures,
jobs, stakeholders, etc.
Ways of knowing, deciding,
evaluating, etc. (with data)
Social practices: sharing,
collaboration, mobilisation, exchange, etc.
Business models, Open innovation,
etc.
AUTOMATION, DEMATERIALIZATION
"EMPOWERMENT "

An overview of the French strategy about AI
❑ Launched in March 2018 (Cedric Villani’s report)
❑ "IA for humanity": 4 mainstays
1. Interdisciplinary Research: 4 "Interdisciplinary AI Institutes" (Grenoble, Toulouse, Nice and Paris), 5000 researchers
1. Open Innovation:
• Observatory of Artificial Intelligence in France: 80 ETIs and SMEs & 270 Start ups
• French IA Hub: major groups (Air Liquide, Air France, SNCF, Société Générale, etc.)
1. Training programs in IA: "tripling the number of people trained in artificial intelligence by 2020", coordinated by INRIA (French research institute for digital sciences)
2. Ethics, public debate: France-Canada IPAI ("The IPCC for IA")
AI and ecology
❑ An AI "ecologic by design" >> a platform for measuring the environmental impact of digital solutions
❑ Free the “Green data”! : biodiversity, reforestation, climate data, etc.
❑Strengthen the policy of opening up public and private data (”for reasons of general interest") health, transport or environment sectors
❑Reinforce standardization and operabilityEx: Health Data Hub
❑ Global Forum on AI For Humanity (October 28th and 29th, Paris) : More announcements to come?
Ex: strategic sectors (biodiversity, agriculture, energy, etc.)
