I can’t believe how fast this school year is flying by! Since our return from the break, we have begun the final quarter of the school year. I hope all of our families were able to enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation during Spring Break. We began the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) testing season on April 2nd. I am confident that our students are well prepared and ready to demonstrate what they know. Our students and teachers have worked especially hard this year! Thank you for your continued support and partnerships. Sincerely, Christy de Zayas Principal _______________________________________________________

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS
Fourth Grade Spring has arrived at Eagle Point and our 4th grade students have become more self-sufficient learners and leaders of their own success. With the start of the FSA , our students have worked towards mastery of our ELA & Mathematics’ standards in order to “show what they can do” when the day arrives! Some excellent resources to follow through at home with your child’s success are: •iReady Reading and Mathematics •fsassessment.org •Personal Math Trainer on Think Central As we come to the 4th quarter, our upcoming project, Famous Florida Explorers, will certainly give our 4th graders the necessary background information to better appreciate our exciting end of the year field trip to St. Augustine. We’d like to wish our Eagle Point Families a fabulous end of the school year! The Fantastic 4th Grade Teachers.

Fifth Grade
Our Fabulous Fifth Graders had a sneak peek into what awaits them next year during a field trip to Tequesta Trace Middle School, We are working hard to prepare our students for the rigors of 6th Grade and beyond. You will be seeing practice and review materials going home as we get ready to tackle the FSA and FCAT exams beginning in May. We ask that you continue to monitor your child's use of the i-Ready program in both reading and mathematics as we are certain this will help with standards mastery. Wishing you all a Happy Spring! ______________________________________________

SCHOOL PSYCH SPOTLIGHT By Griselda Camino
TEST ANXIETY ~ “Psyched out”!
Almost everyone feels nervous or experiences some anxiety when faced with a test
or an exam. In fact, it is unusual to find a student who doesn’t approach a big test
without a degree of anxiety and this is perfectly normal. Test anxiety is very
common among students! However, stressful emotions can inhibit
a student’s ability to retain and recall information and they may have difficulty
demonstrating what they know during the test. Research has shown that providing
students with tools and strategies that build both emotional skills and healthy
physical habits when preparing for a test can help them overcome test anxiety.
Keep these tips in mind as you help your child prepare for the upcoming FSA tests.
TIPS FOR TEST SUCCESS!
Tip #1: POSITIVE SELF-STATEMENTS
Keep a positive attitude throughout the whole test
and try to stay relaxed. For example: Instead of
saying “I will fail.”, say something like …“I know I
can do this.” If you start to feel nervous take a few
deep breaths to relax.
Tip #2: GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP
Go to sleep early the day before the test and show up
to class early so you won't have to worry about
feeling rushed.
Tip #3: READ THE DIRECTIONS AND QUESTIONS CAREFULLY
Focus on the question at hand; don't let your mind wander on other things. Look
out for questions that ask for more than answer.
Tip #4: USE ALL OF THE TIME ALOTTED FOR THE TEST
If you have extra time, cover up your answers and actually rework the question.
Double check your work and go back to those harder questions.
Tip #5: REMIND YOURSELF THAT THE TEST IS ONLY A TEST
Tell yourself that you will do your best on the test, and that will be enough! Be
proud of your hard work and go reward yourself for doing your best!
SPECIALS HAPPENINGS
K-1 grades. Students are
learnin reviewing animales de la granja (farm animals). They are also reviewing colors, shapes, numbers, and parts of the face. Students are getting familiar with the popular T.V. show jeopardy to practice these
concepts. 2-3 grades. Students are working with objects around the classroom
to identify nouns, adjectives and cognate words to help them make connections between Spanish-English. 4-5 grades. Students have been working on “Mi comunidad” and using
Nearpod. Nearpod is an application that allow students interact with new knowledge in a more engaging way. By using Nearpod students were able to visit Bolivia and their culture in three virtual field trips. Students are also working on cognate words, vocabulary words and geography of Latin American countries.
Greetings from Art! Greetings from Art! It has been an amazing
year! As we are into our last quarter, 4th and
5th grade students have been busy creating
animal collages, a multi-step and multi-
media project. Students used a variety of
visual and tactile textures putting a strong
emphasis on the eyes. Second and third grade students have just
completed colorful sea turtles using glue and pastels. Students are now
working with clay creating fun and unique pinch pots. Pre K,
Kindergarten and First Grade students have been focused on primary
and secondary colors while creating symmetrical butterflies. In our
next project, we will be using tissue paper to piece together colorful
caterpillars, inspired by Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
Pre-K will be building structures with
different shapes, colors and sizes they
must sort out first.
Pre-K and Kindergarten have been
exploring with magnets by finding
out which objects are or are not attracted to them. First graders
have been studying objects in the sky and Second grade will be
participating in an experiment using 3 types of soil to
determine which is most absorbent. Third and Fourth are
studying animals and how they obtain their energy, while Fifth
grade learns about the organs and systems of the human body.
Music: In recent weeks, all students have been participating in a
variety of movement activities including folk dances from around
the world. Also, students have been and will continue to utilize
Orff Instruments (Xylophones, Metallophones, and
Glockenspiels) as
well as African drums
in the music classroom.
Media Center Hi all! Welcome back! I hope you had a great spring
break, relaxing and reading as a family! All of our

their Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books
(junior for PK – 2nd grade and regular for grades 3
– 5) all year and taking their AR quizzes so they
can collect their backpack Brag Tags.

Highlights in PE this year: This year we are happy to partner with Fitzness International, and Under Armour to bring our students the Morning Mile. Currently, we have over 500 students participating and at least 4 students have surpassed 100 miles! Students have enjoyed meeting their friends out on the Morning Mile course to walk, jog, and run their way to fun. The Morning Mile will continue each year to accelerate children's physical literacy along with the Physical Education curriculum at Eagle Point. Stay tuned for the addition of the bike safety program coming soon to Eagle Point Physical Education!
