COPATIN® — the drinking water tube with internal tin plating
COPATIN® is our brand name for seamlessly extruded drinking
water copper tube with internal tin plating. The tube is given a
high-quality tin plating using a special KME process. This makes
it suitable for all drinking water.
COPATIN® tubes are diffusion-proof, UV-resistant, age-proof
and can withstand high levels of mechanical stress. The tin
plating guarantees constant drinking water quality at the tap
and ensures excellent corrosion protection. Drinking water
analyses are not required when COPATIN® tubes are used.

COPATIN® is the premium tube for transporting drinking water and was especially developed for this kind of application. Installations with COPATIN® guarantee best drinking water quality. The main benefit of COPATIN® is that it can be used with all drinking water qualities.
COPATIN® tubes combine the positive properties of copper and tin: Copper allows for good processing, while tin brings outstanding hygiene properties. COPATIN® fulfils all the requirements of the drinking water laws and regulations — with no restrictions.
The system is completed with tin-plated COPATIN® press fittings from Viega. Both products bear the DVGW inspection mark. KME and Viega provide warranties for COPATIN® in accordance with the warranty agreements with the German Central Association Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning (ZVSHK).

COPATIN® is the premium tube from KME for all drinking water and rainwater systems. It can be used in heating technology and as gas pipe. The seamlessly extruded copper tube has internal, high-quality tin plating. This refines the surface (bronze), which guar-antees constant drinking water quality at the tap and ensures outstanding corrosion protection. According to DIN 50930, Part 6, tin-plated copper tubes are expressly suit-able for all drinking water properties according to German drinking water regulations. Therefore, when COPATIN® is used, no drinking water analysis is required.

HygieneCompared to other materials, copper has hygienic advantages that are especially important in drinking water installations. As experience and recent studies have shown, the formation of legionella and other harmful bacteria caused by unfavourable operating conditions is dramatically reduced when copper is a part of the system. Aditionally, there are no temperature-related limitations for thermal disinfecting as in other materials. With copper, the normal use of disinfecting agents in water such as chlorine is also possible in the concentrations typical for drinking water, even short-term high-chlorination processes of up to 12 hours cause no problems whatsoever.

COPATIN® tubes can be connected with press fittings or capillary fittings (soldered). COPATIN® tubes are cold pressed with the specially designed COPATIN® press fittings. With the extensive range of press fittings available, joints, bends and connections in a drinking water system can be installed very quickly, reliably and economically. The COPATIN® system is also approved for gas lines according to TRGI '86/'96.
In combination with galvanised steel tubes for drinking water, the universally applicable flow rule stating that noble metals always follow non-noble: In the direction of flow, COPATIN® must be in-stalled after galvanised steel.
The COPATIN® system accessories enable the tubes and fittings to be processed quickly, cleanly and reliably. The electro-hydraulic or battery-operated press tools are equipped with the required pressure clamps adjusted to suit the tube diameters in the system.

Reliability is top priority — from the raw material to the finished KME copper tube.
Modern tube manufacturing is an extensive, high-tech process. At KME, all stages from the fi rst processing steps with the raw mate-rial through to delivery of the fi nal product run smoothly as part of a single quality chain.
The starting products are refi ned copper billets delivered from continuous casting plants. These are heated to 950 °C and processed into hollows for further pro-cessing by hot pressing or hot skew rolling. Reciprocating rolls then perform the subsequent cold forming. Hard, half-hard and soft copper tubes are produced for domestic plumbing in multi-stage cold-drawing processes.
