Riverside DREAM Monthly Snapshot February 2012
Program Happenings and Highlights
Teen WAC and overnight WAC was held this month with great success. Teens spent a
day at Northern Lights Rock and Ice challenging themselves and working together, and
the spent the night playing and bonding with one another. Overnight WAC attendees
included 5 kids and their mentors, ages 10-12. The adventurous DREAMers spent two
days at Camp DREAM, sledding, star gazing, winter camping, and more!
The three UVM DREAM programs wrapped up their joint recruitment this month,
welcoming a total of 18 new mentors into the DREAM programs. Riverside specifically
has taken on 8 excited new mentors, who are set to begin DREAM right after Spring
break!
Riverside DREAMers spent several weekdays while the children were off on school break
holding fundraisers on the UVM campus. The group sold baked goods, crafts made by
the mentees, and one little DREAMer even offered to unsuspecting passersby to sing
Beyonce for money! Mentee’s also helped their mentors with recruitment, approaching
college students (under supervision!) with a sign up sheet to be a mentor. What a kooky
group!

Weekly Programming with Children
One wintry Friday included a rousing game of Broomball on Shelburne Pond for the
adventuresome Riverside DREAMers!
As a special treat, mentors brought their mentees to Pizza Put for a wacky and fun Friday
filled with miniature golf, video games, pizza, and lots of play time in the giant play
structures!
The group enjoyed a fun scavenger hunt around the UVM campus.
One Friday was spent doing a smorgasbord of activities, including cooking, arts and
crafts, games, and gym time.
