IG & Twitter: @bahdiplomatic | Email: [email protected] | www.mofa.gov.bh The Diplomatic Gazette 16th Issue September 2018 Monthly Newsletter Kingdom of Bahrain Bahrain and the United Nations Enduring Partnership 18 - 29 Septemebr 2018 Speech of the Kingdom of Bahrain before the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Syria - We reaffirm the need for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis with effective Arab participation to enable the state to exercise control over its territory, eliminate terrorist groups of all kinds, particularly those supported by Iran. - We welcome the Russian-Turkish truce in Idlib & affirm support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan De Mistura. - My own country was thus a target of Qatari plans beyond even the events of 2011. Qatar provided financial, informational, logistical support to acts of violence and terrorism. - We reacted with wisdom and far-sight to prevent our two peoples any harm. We still hope that Qatar will return to its senses by responding to the conditions of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Emirates and Egypt. Qatar Iran - The Iranian regime has a policy of destruction. It supports terrorist organizations & interferes in the internal affairs of other states. - The situation in the Republic of Yemen is a case in point. The Iranian regime backs the militias behind the coup d’état in Yemen to be able to continue its criminal and hostile activities to threaten neighboring countries. Yemen - The Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to its participation as an active member of the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen since its inception. The Coalition is committed to restoring peace and security to Yemen and to assisting the people of Yemen in all areas. United Arab Emirates - We renew our demand for an end to the Iranian occupation of the 3 UAE islands (Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, Abu Mussa) & for it to respond to UAE efforts to restore sovereignty over its territory & to resolve this through negotiations of the International Court of Justice. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - I would be remiss not to commend the significant role and constructive efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the regional and international levels, using its prominent status and strategic role to consolidate international peace and security Libya - We reiterate Bahrain’s consistent position supporting all efforts towards the reconstruction of the state & the unification of the military institution to enable it to protect Libya and fight all forms of terrorism. Iraq - Peace of Iraq, preserving its sovereignty & the prosperity of its people is what we wish for, hoping that Iraq will resume its leading role at the Arab, regional & international levels. We stress the necessity of ending regional interference in its internal affairs. - The Kingdom of Bahrain stands by Morocco against the flagrant Iranian plotting and interference in its internal affairs and supports the serious and credible efforts by Morocco to reach a political solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara. Morocco - Establishing a sovereign state on the borders 4th of June 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital and guarantees the return of refugees based on the two state solution & according to the Arab Peace Initiative & relevant international resolutions. - We also stress the need to offer all possible assistance to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (#UNRWA). The award is the first-of-its-kind on a global level to encourage countries as well as public and private sector entities to motivate the youth in becoming the best components in order to reach these goals. The Kingdom of Bahrain's submission of its first voluntary report on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (STGs) 2030 to the High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council underscores the Kingdom's commitment to the implementation of the SDGs. Bahrain hosted the 2nd Arab High-Level Forum on Sustainable Development. The 9th International Youth Conference, held under the theme of ‘Give Back’, selected SDGs 2030 as the topic of the 2017 conference. United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) bestowed His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa AlKhalifa with an award in recognition of his global role in delivering economic empowerment for youth and women along with his vision, strategy and development achievements. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) presented HRH the Prime Minister, with the ICT in Sustainable Development’ award in 2015. The United Nations presented HRH the Prime Minister, with the Millennium Development Goals 2010 award. Awards received by the Kingdom in the field of Sustainable Development Goals

Speech of the Kingdom of Bahrain before the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa

Syria- We reaffirm the need for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis with effective Arab participation to enable the state to exercise control over its territory, eliminate terrorist groups of all kinds, particularly those supported by Iran.- We welcome the Russian-Turkish truce in Idlib & affirm support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan De Mistura.
