The Differential Aptitude Tests (DATs)
A set of tests that assesses ones’ aptitude in 7 areas
How do these aptitudes relate to a particular career?
• These aptitudes are only one aspect of what one might need for a particular job/career
• Other factors are also important e.g. Interests, Hobbies, Skills (e.g. Communication skills, Organisational skills, Computer skills etc…..)
What do you want from work?
• You may have a belief or an opinion as to what work might mean to you
• Do you?
• “Indicators Test”…….
What work could mean for you!
• Necessary part of everyday life
• Need it for money
• It would have to be interesting!
• A job with high social status
• A job which could involve promotion
• A 9 to 5 job!
• A job that pays well!
What career/job will I choose?
• The key thing to keep in mind is to choose a career that interests you and that you will enjoy doing!
• It is your decision!
• You will get advise but you will have to come with the answers!!!
Remember!
• The results of the DATs is only one part of what is important for choosing a career
• They tell you nothing about your interests, your skills……..in other words nothing about who you are!!
• You need to keep this in mind when considering the results of your aptitude test.
DATs Results
• You will no be getting a percentage (%) scores
• Results will be expressed in bands/groups
• Your results are your own (confidential) and we will be asking you not to discuss them with each other
Multiple Intelligences
• 1. Logical-Mathematical
• 2. Linguistic
• 3. Musical
• 4. Spatial
• 5. Bodily-Kinaesthetic
• 6. Interpersonal
• 7. Intrapersonal
• It is possible to develop or learn each (if not all) of these!
• These Intelligences are useful in some careers/jobs
