The current 14-year term of office of Stephen Raslavich, United StatesBankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia is due toexpire on October 28, 2007. The United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuitis considering the reappointment of Judge Raslavich to a new 14-year term of office.

Upon reappointment, the incumbent would continue to exercise the jurisdictionof a bankruptcy judge as specified in Title 28, United States Code; Title 11, UnitedStates Code; and the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judgeship Act of 1984,Pub. L. No. 98-353, §§101-122, 98 Stat. 333-346. In bankruptcy cases andproceedings referred by the district court, the incumbent would continue to performthe duties of a bankruptcy judge that might include holding status conferences,conducting hearings and trials, making final determinations, entering orders andjudgments, and submitting proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law to thedistrict court.

Requirements: This position requires a minimum of five years of practice or judicialclerkship experience, federal criminal experience preferred, and a demonstratedworking knowledge of federal criminal law. The Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is acceptingapplications for the position of Assistant Federal Public Defender in the CapitalHabeas Unit. The Unit represents death-sentenced prisoners in federal habeas corpuslitigation proceedings in the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the Third Circuit Courtof Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. This is a full-time position locatedin Harrisburg.

Applicants must have sufficient experience to undertake the representation ofpetitioners in capital habeas cases in federal court from the initial petition throughappeal. The office seeks an individual with excellent communication skills, acommitment to poverty law or indigent criminal defense, and litigation experience inat least one of the following areas: criminal law and/or death penalty litigation,habeas corpus litigation, complex federal court civil litigation. A background in anyarea of mental health and/or social work is also helpful. The position requires travel.
