CEMETERY LOTS

We have only two weeks left in our study of certain saints. We continue our presentations by Joe Hand this coming Wednesday, November 13th, at 7:00PM in St. Francis Hall. Our saint for this week is Katherine Drexel. She was born and raised in Philadelphia just

before the Civil War. Her family was extremely wealthy and generous to the poor. By 1865 racism toward African-Americans and Native-Americans was rampant in our country. Katherine witnessed first-hand all the injustices being perpetrated toward minorities. Katherine felt called to the religious life. When both her parents died, she and her two sisters inherited a vast fortune. Katherine entered the Sisters of Mercy convent in Pittsburgh, and in a few years she founded a new order called the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. She donated her entire inheritance to this order.

In all, Katherine Drexel established 145 missions, 50 schools for African-Americans, and 12 schools for Native Americans. Come join us this coming Wednesday evening to hear the interesting life story of Katherine Drexel.

Mary, Help of Christians has more than 50 ministr ies that meet the diverse needs of its members and the community. Over the next several months we will feature a series of those ministry profiles. These Ministry Spotlights highlight the wide

variety of opportunities to serve and be served at Mary Help. Our hope is that somewhere in these 50-plus ministries there is one that’s just right for you!

The Scrip Program also offers hundreds of other gift cards that can be ordered. Stop by the Bride’s Room before or after most weekend Masses and take a look at the complete list. We can have any of these cards within a week on a pre-paid basis Please consider ordering Scrip. We could use some new volunteers. We need volunteers for the 5th Saturdays and Sundays, as well as volunteers who could occasionally substitute for our regularly scheduled volunteers. The holiday season, from around Thanksgiving to Christmas, is a very busy time and extra hands would be most welcome. It's not hard work. Contact Judy McCoy, 879-3570, if you'd like to volunteer.

GROWING CLOSER TO GOD THROUGH SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Spiritual Direction is really not about being “directed,” it is about being encouraged to draw

closer to God. In spiritual direction you reflect deeply on the experiences of your daily life. After completing a two year training in spiritual direction I am offering to journey with you as you deepen your relationship with God. This involves confidential, one-on-one sessions, usually once a month for an hour. For more information or to make an appointment call Pat Scanlon @ 878-0461 or 572-2530.

Baptismal Preparation Classes At MHC The next two Baptismal Preparation Classes for parents seeking baptism for young children are being held on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 12:30PM and Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 12:30PM in the Church. Please call the parish office @ 878-8353 to advise us if you will be attending one of these classes.

LOST AND FOUND

Have You Lost Any Belongings at Church? If you lose an item inside the church, please check our Lost and Found Box in the Bride’s Room, located on the left side of the gathering area as you enter the church. Unclaimed items are periodically donated to charity.

Are you grieving the death of a loved one? Mary, Help of Christians has a grief support group to care for people on their bereavement journey. Within a confidential, Christ centered environment, individuals have an opportunity to share their personal experience of loss with others who are grieving. This time of prayer, scripture, faith sharing and fellowship will be

held on the third Tuesday of each month in St. Francis Hall, beginning at 10 am and concluding by 12 noon. Each session has structure activities, as well as time to share or just listen, time ask questions about specific problems and coping strategies, and time to help others who are grieving. For more information of if you are new to the group please call the parish office @ 878-8353 or Pat Scanlon @ 878-0461 or 572-2530 to let us know you are coming. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 19.

Thirty-Second SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

What is the Handy Helpers Ministry? Volunteers from our parish make small home repairs and do “round-the-house” projects for elderly, disabled, and single parents. Materials are the responsibility of the homeowner, but the labor is free. (For those in need, St. Vincent de Paul and other donations may provide some materials.) Among the services that may be done are yard work, painting, carpentry, minor electrical work, general repairs, window washing, gardening, mending and other handy-person jobs.

For more information or to request the services of a handy-helper, please call the Parish Office @ 878-8353. If you have skills that could be put to good use in this ministry, you are invited to call and join our “Handy Helpers.”

HANDY HELPERS

Why donate my blood?

Because one donation can save

up to three lives! Because every 3

seconds someone needs blood!

How else can you save three lives

in less than one hour? Only 5%

of the population donates 100%

of the blood supply. Consider giving the gift of life at

MHC’s Blood Drive, it will be held in the Parish Center

APR room this Saturday, November 09, 2019 from

8:30AM–12:15PM. Remember to br ing a picture ID

with SS# and eat a nourishing breakfast beforehand.

Appointments are requested. To schedule an appointment

ANNUAL SENIOR THANKSGIVING DINNER

St. Vincent de Paul collects monetary donations at the doors

after Mass on the 3rd weekend of every month.

St. Vincent de Paul requests your support in a FOOD DRIVE to be held on Thanksgiving.

The pantry, from which we serve the poor of Fairborn, is providing food to 150-200 families every month. This level of support has been provided for the past couple years; we sincerely thank you for your

continued support for this ministry. By helping the poor, you give thanks to your God for the blessings he has given to you. The pantry needs include soup, fruit and vegetables in cans, spaghetti sauce, boxed macaroni and cheese, and canned prepared foods, such as baked beans, and ravioli. We can always use personal paper products, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shampoo. Cleaning products-laundry and dish soap-are also needed. Please leave any donations in the vestibule of the church, before or after Thanksgiving mass on 28 November. Jesus made it clear that we will always have poor persons with us. St Vincent de Paul has lasted for a long time and continues to be active because there is a persistent need. We appreciate your commitment to helping those poor.
