the data driven charity
DESCRIPTION
I recently delivered a session at the Better Boards 2014 Conference on the topic of 'The Data Driven Charity'. Here's the outline of the session: We live in a world where we are surrounded by big data. Corporations and governments mine this data to grow profits and allocate spending. Why aren’t more non-profits following the trend? Over the next decade, charities who make use of data will far outperform those that do not. Donors and funders will become more and more demanding that we provide them with hard data about our impact and hold us accountable to numeric KPI’s. It is imperative that non-profits learn to navigate this new world and benefit from the opportunities that their data provides them with. This session will provide an introduction to the current state of play, a road-map of where we are going, and a guide to developing a strategic plan that focuses on data driven results. You will get to see case studies of organisations that have excelled in this area, and hear a few cautionary tales. Come along to learn how your charity can re-invent itself to meet the needs of the new world where data and your ability to prove impact are a key element of your future success. Key Objectives ● To excite the audience about the opportunities that data and data analysis present to non-profits ● To paint a picture of how data can improve the work that charities undertake and how important it will be in the future. ● To make data collection, analysis and action part of the strategic process for boards. Key ideas ● We now have access to more data about what we do and the impact it has. ● Data provides leverage ● Funders and donors are become more discerning and more of them are relying on data for decision making. ● The right data allows better decision making, better programmes and better results.TRANSCRIPT
