“Treasure in Clay Jars”

Lesson: II Corinthians 4:2-15

GOLDEN TEXT:

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are

perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast

down, but not destroyed” (II Corinthians 4:8-9).

TODAY’S AIM:

“To discover the ultimate treasure of true wealth that is eternal and

unchanging.

INTRODUCING THE LESSON:

“The believer is called to seek the good of others and to grow in

Christ. The unique point is that the avenue for the great things that

God is doing is fallible human beings. We are jars of clay. This makes

what God is doing all the more impressive.

PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. God-pleasing ministry requires honesty, integrity, and account-

ability (II Corinthians 4:2).

2. Satan blinds men to the gospel, but Christ can open their eyes

(II Corinthians 4:3-4).

3. Preaching’s focus should always be Christ, and the glory of God

its goal (II Corinthians 4:5-6).

4. In our weak flesh God demonstrates His great grace and strength

(II Corinthians 4:7-9).

5. Suffering for Christ assures us of eternal life with Christ (II Co-

rinthians 4:10-12).

6. Suffering for Christ brings encouragement to others and glory to

God (II Corinthians 4:13-15).

CONCLUDING THE LESSON:

What we need is a deep and profound understanding that we have

been given the greatest treasure in the universe in the spiritual light

given to us in the Word of God. While we owe it to others to share

the light with them, it is also a great honor to do so.
