Cornfields in Wolf Lake show signs of wilting Tuesday because of record-setting drought that has hit the region. Nearly half of Illinois’ corn crop and 42 percent of soybeans are in very poor condition, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service weekly crop update released Monday. The U.S. Department of Agriculture released a report Wednesday that predicts only a fraction of the corn planted in the spring will produce this year. Many farmers are plowing down their crops to use the hay to feed livestock.
