We Have A New Pool Manager!

Meet Zac Claunch

My name is Zac Claunch. I grew up at the pool, the Creekside Cabana Club pool that is, both as a member of the swim team as well as going there just to hang out with friends. I started swimming for the Cudas at about the age of 5 until I was 12. This year will be my sixth season working at the Cabana Club. I started as a gate guard, continued as a lifeguard, last year I was one of the assistant managers and this year I got asked to be the pool manager which I am super excited about! I love working at the pool as it is a fun experience and an awesome environment to work in. Currently I am a junior at Chico State majoring in Exercise Physiology and minoring in Biology so I have lots on my plate. I would like to one day be a Physicians Assistant.

I am looking very forward to this season as your pool manager and want to welcome everybody, both old and new, back to the pool this summer! My goal this season is for everything to run smoothly while providing both employees as well as patrons with a safe and fun summer experience at the pool. We have an awesome staff in place for the season, the majority of them returning from working with us last season as well as a few new hires. We are excited to see familiar faces return back to the pool this season as well as looking forward to welcoming new ones. With that said, we will officially kick off the season when the pool opens on May 5th, 2018 and as always, we have lots in store! Back by popular demand, we will once again be offering our refreshing root beer floats for FREE if you come to the pool on Memorial Day as well as 4th of July. On 4th of July, we will have our traditional games such as the sand castle building contest, balloon toss and the sponge water relay for the kids to participate in. The pool is also ready for a big season! In February, we had all the racing lanes scrubbed down while the pool was drained making it very inviting to jump into. If you plan to have a summer party in our outside BBQ and pool area, you can reserve your date starting May 5th. However, please be prepared to show that your dues have been paid and that your 2018 emergency form has been filled out. You can also register your child for group swim lessons this summer. We will be offering a total of 6 sessions beginning on June 4th with the sixth one, from August 13th to August 23rd, being dependent on the availability of our staff. Each session is two weeks long and there are a total of 8 classes per session, Monday through Thursday, that are each 30 minutes in duration. If interested, please contact me, Zac, at [email protected].

Our office and pool hours for this season will be as follows. We will be open from 12 noon until 7 pm on weekends in May. After Memorial Day and until June 9th, we will be open daily, from 3 pm to 5 pm on weekdays and from 12 noon to 7 pm on weekends. From June 10th until August 13th, we will be open 7 days a week from 12 noon to 8 pm. From August 14th until September 1st, once school starts up again, we will still be open daily from 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays and from 12 noon to 7 pm on weekends. For the month of September, we will only be open on weekends from 12 noon to 7 pm.

Finally, because we are responsible for the safety of our members, we must ensure that all lifeguards we hire are properly trained and certified to do their job. To accomplish this, we use a company called Happy Swimmers who come to the Cabana Club and conduct an intensive two day lifeguard certification class. This year the lifeguard certification class will take place over two days on April 14th and April 15th. The total price for the two day course is $254 per person and the class goes from 8AM to 6:30PM each day. Because this class is not taught directly through us, it is open to the public but you must register online at www.happyswimmers.com. We make sure that our lifeguards needing the class get signed up right away and then all remaining spots are open for the taking. If interested, go to the Happy Swimmers site noted above and then hit the lifeguard certification button where you will find a calendar with all the places classes are being held to register. All students who pass the two day course will be given a Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, AED and Lifeguard First Aid. The certificates are valid for a total of two years and will be instantly emailed to students upon successful completion of the class on Sunday.

Get ready to swim, soak in the sun, enjoy yourself and catch up with your neighbors and friends this summer poolside at the Creekside Cabana Club where I look forward to meeting many of you myself!

A Note From Our Associate Membership Chairperson, Denelle Fedor

Welcome Associate Members! Specifically, a warm ‘Welcome Back’ to the Anderson Family, Estrada Family, Zito/Fedor Family, Acosta Family, Coates Family, Escobar Family, Wang Family, Espinoza Family, Russler Family, Adya Family, Nguyen/Bui Family, Stipe Family, Nguyen Family, Scaglia Family, Hardy Family, Wong Family, Guerrero Family, Deepthi Family, Villarreal Family, Wood Family, Silva Family, Kowalski Family, Merritt Family, Truong Family, Leon Family, Chilkuri Family and the Grassi Family! I hope that everyone is doing well and staying dry and safe during these winter months. I mailed the 2018 Associate Membership renewal letter with emergency form to all previous 2017 members. You should have received these two items in either a bright yellow or green envelope. If you did not, please make sure to contact me ASAP using my contact information below! The Associate Membership fee for the 2018 season is the same as last year, $400 and non-refundable. Payment was due in full by March 15, 2018 and your completed emergency form must accompany your membership check. We ask that you fill out a NEW emergency form for 2018 EVEN IF NOTHING HAS CHANGED FROM PRIOR YEARS! Also, remember that if you have children on the Cuda Swim Team, you are required to pay the $400 Associate Membership fee with the only exception being if you live within the assessed HOA Creekside neighborhood. As shared in the renewal letter, please send payment along with the 2018 emergency form to the following address:

Creekside Cabana Club, Associate Membership C/o Denelle Fedor 3615 Cour Du Vin San Jose, CA 95148

With this said, the good news is that there is still time to join or rejoin! As you know, there are many incentives to being an Associate Member at the Creekside Cabana Club. These include reduced rates on swim lessons, being on the swim team (Member’s children between the ages of 4 and 18 are eligible to join the Creekside “Cudas” Swim Team. If interested, you can view their website at www.creeksidecudas.com or email the team at [email protected]), the ability to rent the clubhouse, access to the barbeques, being able to bring guests for only $3 per person, social events/potlucks and of course, the pool itself for those hot summer days. Finally, the Cabana Club makes for a wonderful retreat to sit by the pool, read a book and enjoy the beautiful summer weather.

The below are some friendly reminders regarding our policies as an associate member: March 15th was the deadline for existing members to renew their memberships.

Associate memberships will now be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Once payment has been received, an email will be sent to you from me confirming your

membership. Please hang onto this email as it also serves as your receipt. There is no “pro-rating” of membership rates after the season begins. In order for your children to be on the Creekside Cabana Club Swim Team, you MUST be

an Associate Member, the only exception being if you live within the assessed Creekside neighborhood!

For any questions or further information, feel free to contact me directly on my cell phone (text or call) at 408-426-7891 or by email at [email protected]. Please note that I work during the day and some nights but that my goal is to respond within 24 hours. Thanks in advance for your understanding. We sure hope to see all of you poolside come May. Here’s to a fun 2018 Creekside Cabana Club Summer Season!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Do you or someone you know need to be certified in CPR and First Aid? Back by popular demand, the Creekside Cabana Club is once again offering this annual certification class so don’t miss out on this great opportunity! The class will take place from 9 am to 2 pm in the

clubhouse on April 28, 2018. We warmly welcome back our neighborhood friend and firefighter, Mike Gomez, who has offered this class in the past and has agreed to offer it again. The cost is $65 per person for a spot in the class. You should come wearing comfortable clothes that allow you to sit on the floor and bring a snack or lunch. This is a great way to spend a day learning, practicing and mastering these important skills in a pleasant and encouraging environment. If interested, please contact our new pool manager Zac Claunch at: [email protected] to register. Space is limited so sign up right away!

Message From Your Cuda Parent Reps

Hello Creekside Neighborhood! We are tremendously excited for the 2018 Creekside Cuda season to start. Our winter conditioning program has been a great hit and our Cudas are ready for some hot competition this summer. Our parent information meeting was successful, like the seasons before, and our beginners clinic is knocking on our door come the week of March 19th. Our season kick off, the Cinco De Mayo Fundraiser (see details below), is a new event on our calendar this year. It is replacing the Wine and Pasta Fundraiser Dinner which we have

done for the past several years now and we are trying something new! So if you love tacos and margaritas, look for the preorder form in the next issue of the Chronicle coming out in just a couple of weeks or contact one of us by email at [email protected] to get one sooner and turn it into the parent rep folder at the pool. The night should prove to be a lot of fun filled with magnificent food, margaritas and wine too, and last but not least fundraising. Following this kick off event, there will be lots more socials and fundraising events to look forward to for the season which will also be highlighted in the next issue of the Chronicle and therefore more fun times to come. Two worth noting now to save the date for are the following: 1) Tiki Night taking place on June 23rd and 2) All American BBQ & Baskets taking place on June 30th and which is replacing the Fiesta Dinner & Raffle we have done in the past. We hope that you mark your calendars and plan on joining us for all the fun at the pool this season! We look forward to once again being your Cuda Parent Reps this season and as always, we are available to answer questions which you may have and help to point you in the right direction. You can also reach us via email anytime at [email protected]. Our motto: EAT, SLEEP & SWIM !!!! Your Cuda Parent Reps, Angela Smith and Scott & Cyndee Farstad

The Eruption Karate Tournament

Recently Dragon Cloud Dojo at Creekside took over 35 students who competed in Forms, Point Fighting and Weapons Divisions to the Eruption Karate Tournament in San Jose. Several students competed in multiple divisions that day. All the competitors came home with one or more medals for their participation in the tournament and for placing in their respective divisions. Doug Bloom, one of Dragon Cloud's adult Brown belts, truly represented our school by placing 1st in Forms and Fighting as well as winning 2 Grand Champion medals in both divisions. If that was not enough of a reward, Dragon Cloud was also awarded the “Most Supportive School” that day!

These students are dedicated to doing their best and exceeding their goals. Not only do they enjoy competition, they are also building great strength and character. Congratulations to all these fine students for their tremendous effort and achievements!
