The Creatures in My Yard

In my busy backyard, you can spy

Seven pairs of finches that fly.

Eighty-four butterflies flutter on blooms

A score of moths scramble for room.

A half-dozen turtles bask in the sun,

Nine scurrying lizards make walking fun.

A dozen robins eye nine nervous worms

Who worry and wiggle and jiggle and squirm.

A lone beagle barks at a tree,

As six tiny chipmunks

Giggle and flee.

Nine bullfrogs croak at the barking dog.

While a dozen toads hide in a log.

Seven raccoons steal food from the cat.

And that is that.
