Survey the Scene
• Called 911• Noticed 3 individuals around the boat• 2 on land, 1 in the water under the propeller• Made sure scene was safe before I started First
Aid• Performed the ABC’s of First Aid• 1on land was conscious and walking around,
The other was not breathing but had a pulse. Victim under the prop was conscious.

• I grabbed the first aid kit out of my boat and helped the victims in order of severity.

Unconscious VictimNot breathing but with a pulse
• Checked Airway- Noticed it was clogged and there were M&M’s on the boat. Victim must be choking on them
• Positioned Victim for Abdominal Thrusts
• I gave abdominal thrusts until the object came out.

Unconscious VictimNot breathing but with a pulse Cont.
• While giving abdominal thrusts I noticed a strong gasoline smell. I check the scene and realized that my unconscious victim was covered in gas.
• He was still unconscious so I took off the victim’s shirt, grabbed a near by bucket, filled it with water and rinsed the gas off of my victim. This would stop any poisoning that might have taken place.

Victim under the Prop
• Noticed large lacerations on victim’s head and blood flowing from head
• Asked victim if they were OK- they said they felt nauscious, and were breathing fast
• Checked pulse- very weak
• Treated Victim for shock and an open wound

Shock
• Gently got victim out of water• Layed them on the bank with feet raised on a log• Got a blanket from my boat and kept victim
warm• Continued to check ABC’s

Open wound
• While victim was on the ground I put pressure on the wound to stop bleeding
• I took my shirt and wrapped it around the boys head

Sudden Change
• While administering first aid to the victims, the conscious person collapsed.
• Checked ABC’s. All signs were positive, assumed victim fainted due to lack of oxygen to the brain
• Treated like the shock victim

• The Coast Guard arrived and they took over the scene and thanked me for a job well done.
