Ms. Jenny & Ms. Stephanie The students can recognize all of the letters in the alphabet and associate each letter with the correct sound.
The students are reading decodable books. In Math, the students have learned to count by 5’s and 10’s. They can also recognize a penny, nickel, dime and quarter and are aware of the value of each.
The students have learned God Made Living Things in religion.
The students can recognize the letters of the alphabet, associate each letter with the correct sound and write the letters
with the correct formation. The students are reading over 500 words using the letter/sound association learned this
year.
The students are reading two super books per night and answering compre-
hension questions about the stories.
The students can write a complete sentence by organizing their thoughts,
using the correct punctuation, spacing, and completing a story starter.
The students can tell time to the hour.
The students can recognize the days of the week, months of the year, and the
days on a calendar.
The students can graph data on a bar graph or picture graph.

Mrs. Micheletti After much prayer, studying, and preparation, we received our
First Holy Communion on April 23, 2016.
In Social Studies, we learned about people from long ago.
Each child did research on one person from American History
and wrote 5 facts. They presented their research to the class
and brought in three artifacts that represented that person.
In Math we have learned about fractions and mixed numbers.
To celebrate our learning, we made pizzas in our “Fractions
Pizza Café.

Religion – We learned about the parts of the Mass and to recite the Act of Contrition.
Math – We learned about two-digit addition, identifying polygons, and fractions.
Language Arts – We learned about different types of pronouns.
Making Music with Homemade Instruments!
We watched our caterpillars grow and turn into beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies. We released them in the flower garden by the Statue of the Blessed Mother.
In Math we learned all about fractions. Our math work included identifying fractions as part of a whole or set, writing equivalent fractions and esti-
mating fractional parts.
In Science we studied the Solar System, created interactive notebook pages, completed a planet projects including diora-mas and a written reports.
Our quest to study Religious art history gave us the opportunity to create mosaics and learn about the history of mosaic art which has been around for about 4,000 years!

We took a field trip to Coon Creek on May 17th, and learned how to find and prepare fossils.
We presented the play, The Three Little Pigs with the Third Grade to our parents and the school this quarter.
We created totem poles after we studied the Tlingit Tribe in the West Region. We learned about the different symbols that are on the poles.

School Social Studies
The Beta Club raised money for the Domini-can Sisters by painting faces and spraying hair to add to the fun of Field Day!
The 7th grade social studies class created Civil War quilts highlighting causes, people, and events of the war.
The 6th grade religion class researched vir-tues and created posters highlighting a per-son that exemplified that virtue.
The 8th grade social studies class researched presidents and created life size displays with information about their assigned president.
The 6th grade social studies class created mosaics to coincide with our studies of Ancient Rome.
The 8th grade social studies class explored the Holocaust and Human Behavior as they participated in the Facing History and Ourselves program.

7th Grade Religion, Math, and Study Skills:
The 7th graders completed their last section from the We Believe Religion series. Students researched topics from their Religion textbook, such as the Communion of Saints and Works of Mercy, and created class presentations using PowerPoint.
The 7th grade Math class conquered their Geometry and Measurement chapters.
The 7th grade class visited Nashville and toured The Hermitage, Belle Meade Plantation, and the State Capitol.
6th Grade Study Skills:
The 6th graders completed their Cyber-Safety and Research Units. They were also introduced to the MLA cita-tion format.
8th Grade Study Skills:
The 8th graders completed their “Guide to College” book. They also researched self-chosen STEM careers and created informative posters to present to the class about that particular career.
Student Council: After all of their hard work and dedication throughout this school year students celebrated the end of the year with the Beta Club at Booya’s. Thank you to the Student Council members and the Beta Club for all that you do for ICS!!

Middle School Science
The 8th graders studied anatomy this past quarter and learned all about the human body. They visited Washington DC this past week. They also graduated! We wish them much success in high school. The 7th graders completed their unit on Animals which included studying mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. They ended it by a visit to the science lab where they dissected frogs. The 6th grade finished up a difficult lesson on sound and light. They learned about sound by making their own string instruments and performing the birthday song at a Monday morning assembly.

The students showcased their knowledge of parts of speech by creating a book of superheroes.
7th Grade
The students used their creative minds to take punctuation to a board game level.
8th Grade
Students hosted 3rd and 4th grade for a punctuation carnival.

2nd—3rd grade took a closer look at plant cross sections while investigating the microscopes.
4th- 5th grade took on the challenge of transporting water a length of two feet.
Middle School Enrichment culminated their music study with a trip to the Rock n’ Soul Museum.

Physical Education
PRESIDENT'S FITNESS CHALLENGE -- During the 4th quarter, students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade participated in the President's Fitness Challenge. Students were tested in sit ups, push ups, stretching, the shuttle run, and an endurance run.
TRACK & FIELD -- We completed our final unit in Track & Field which included sprinting, the 50-yard dash, hurdles, and relay races.
GO FLY A KITE -- We took advantage of windy spring days by flying kites during P.E. with the younger grades.
FIELD DAY -- The weather was perfect for a great Field Day! With 25 volunteers, 11 games, 350 popsicles, a bit of mud, and 800 water balloons, it was a day to remember!

PreK, Kindergarten, 1st Grade students have created “Easter Joy” visuals, Mother’s Day gifts and used their imagination to draw a scene from a story they listened to. These students donated their drawings of runners to be given as prizes for our Spring Festival 5K Winners : Sarah Jane Faverty and Alexandra Warner (Kindergarten), Callum Balderson, Ann Carter Petro, Mac Waggoner and Caden Williams (1st Grade).
New materials and techniques explored this quarter included paper mache 3D im-aginative creatures (2nd Grade), tempera paint color mixing and brush strokes for clouds in a landscape (3rd Grade), pastel painting (4th Grade), outdoor sketching and liquid watercolors (5th Grade), block printing repetitions (6th Grade).
Intricate and circular nature designs were colorfully rendered by 3rd through 8th Grade students.
7th and 8th Grade students completed their self-directed studio work choosing from a variety of materials and visual formats to solve the given visual problems. Most have a very diverse collection of work.
On April 19th, several of our 1st-8th graders came to sing for Dinner at the Book Fair. They had a great time singing some of our newer songs, including "Good, Good Father" and "The Lord Our God," with a few old favorites mixed in as well.
Our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes learned songs for their end-of-year program, including "Home On the Range" and "We Believe in God." They used beautiful scarves and streamers to add color to their rendition of "Sing A Rainbow."
On April 28th, Kevin and Bethany Paige were special guests in 4th and 8th grade Music classes. They shared video clips and wonderful stories from their experiences of song-writing and performing together.

Summer Survival Tips
Maintaining Structure and Routines: Children thrive on structure.
Although, children are unable to express this need in those terms they show
us in their behavior or misbehavior. Parents usually see a change in chil-
dren’s behavior the first weeks after the end of the school year. It is difficult
for children to go from the daily routine of school to just lying around at
home. Children tend to create stimulation for themselves without structure and routine. Parents can help by
doing a few simple things.
Continuing regular mealtimes, play time or trips to the park. Take time for reading during the day and set up and
area for arts and crafts in the house. Regular bed times are as important during the summer months as during
the school year. When children have the external support that parents provide with a continued routine they
are less likely to act impulsively and stay safe. I hope everyone has a fun filled, safe summer!!
