Reading, Math, Writing, Social Studies, and Science were in full swing all month with students actively engaged in all lessons. As we move through the month of December, we want to encourage our families to do all they can to be a part of their children’s educational experience. We encourage you to continue to communicate with your children and ask what they learned in school today? Please take part in their homework and daily lessons. Encourage them to continue to be successful as a student and person. One thing that we take pride in at Lake Seneca is making good choices and we challenge our students to do that every day. Please have that discussion with your child and let them know how those decisions help shape the person that they are and would like to be. Never forget how important you are to what we want to accomplish at Lake Seneca Elementary School. We would like to thank our parents who had the opportunity to complete our fall climate survey. We are currently reviewing the results and look forward to working collaboratively to have another successful school year. We have attached the link to this newsletter as well. Administrative Update Teri Johnson & Gary M. Rand II

It has been another great month for staff and students at Lake                       Seneca Elementary School. If you have not had the opportunity to fill it in,                           please do so as soon as possible. Congratulations to Girls on the Run!

A big congratulations goes out to our Girls on the Run team for                         completing their first 5K on November 19th at the Westfield Mall                     in Bethesda. Each girl improved her run time by minutes! We’d                     also like to thank all of the parents and community members who                       came out to show their support. Another shout out goes out to the                         coaches who volunteered their time to oversee the Girls on the                     Run Club. Without you this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank                   you Jessica Graber, Staci Armezzani, Tara Rowe, Patricia               Clayborne, Jen Weinel, and Karen Cleet. We are so proud of all of                         our Cougars!

Reading Updates

We are well into the second marking period and have                   gotten into a real groove with reading. Students have                 been learning lots of great strategies to use while                 reading literature as well as non fiction. Ask your                 child to tell you about what they are reading in school.                     With the holidays approaching there is sure to be lots                   of family time and trips. During a family outing over                   Winter Break, take some action-packed photos and             have your child create captions to go with each                 picture. You can put the captioned pictures together               in an album, then add speech and thought bubbles to                   create your own personalized family graphic novel!             Another fun idea is to take some time to read comics                     with your child. Share some favorites from your               childhood and have your child put their favorites on                 the fridge. Read them aloud each day (repetition is a                   great way to build reading skills). You will all look                   forward to reading the “Sunday Funnies” each week               together!

Math Updates

We have been encouraging every student to spend               at least 45 minutes a week on i-Ready math. It is                     evident that students have been rising to the               challenge as we had 44% of students meet this goal                   recently! Way to go! Let’s keep this up. Be sure to                     ask your student what they are learning about on                 i-Ready and have them continue to use i-Ready at                 home over the winter break.   With the holidays coming up there is sure to be                   plenty of baking and cooking. This is a great time                   to include your student in your kitchen traditions               as they are able to practice adding, subtracting,               multiplying and dividing. Lots of recipes call for               fractions and what better way to provide             experiences to students then letting them bake and               cook with you! The results will be sure to taste                   yummy!
