CCH2000 is the successor to the National Child Health

System (NCHS) and is developed and distributed by Health

Solutions Wales (HSW) for the NHS. Health Solutions Wales is

an NHS body. The system has been developed specifically as a

computer aid to improving Child Health care in the community and is

applicable for the whole of the UK. Throughout England & Wales,

CCH2000 is being seen as probably the leading computer application in the

‘Child Health’ market as it has been developed with its focus on supporting

Child Health services. The system operates as a ‘stand-alone’ service but can

be easily integrated/interfaced with other applications.

CCH2000 has been designed and developed to give flexibility and portability at an

affordable cost. The data is stored using Oracle® RDBMS and the client software is

provided via Oracle® Forms and Oracle® Reports. Development and testing of the

software is performed within a Windows environment and the system is normally

deployed on such. However, with the portability of Oracle® the database can be placed

on a Unix® platform. CCH2000 can be implemented over a variety of technical solutions

using ‘Thin’ or ‘Fat’ client and also as a WEB deployable application. Solutions already

used for ‘Thin’ include ‘Citrix® Metaframe’ and the alternative option ‘Microsoft® Terminal

Services Client’. The system has been proven over NHSNET, WAN, LAN & Leased Line.

CCH2000 is capable of holding a comprehensive set of records relating to the provision

of care given to children in the community. Some of the main components are as follows:

» Demographic details

» Birth Information

» Neonatal details

» Immunisation History

» PKU & Blood Test results

» Medical Assessment results

» Audio Screening results

» Vision Screening results

» School Nursing Screening results

» Special Needs Register and Reviews

» Statementing Process

» Contacts made by Health Care Professionals

» Other related factors influencing health of the child

» Hospital attendance/admissions – no acute details

» Vulnerability and Protection details

» Developmental Milestones

» Narrative records

CCH2000 gives users the capability to access a largenumber of reports, which will satisfy the majority of

information requirements. All reports necessary for statutoryreturns such as Korner are included within the reporting system

and are easily produced in a relatively short period of time. For easeof use, the request screens for most reports have a similar ‘look and

feel’ and users should have little difficulty in producing what is required. As with all applications, there is always a need to produce non-standard

reports and for this purpose there are many inexpensive products available. These products readily link to the RDBMS and give a straightforward alternative

for reports production.

CCH2000 incorporates a comprehensive set of lookup tables that provide veryrigorous checks on the referential integrity of the data input. In addition, the

inclusion of such tables removes the need for the user to know or memorise anycodes. Scheduling of appointments is one of the most important functions for thesystem and CCH2000 has a very versatile and sophisticated scheduling process forVaccination & Immunisation, Pre-school assessments & screenings, School assessments& screenings and Special Needs reviews. Access to the system and constituent parts iscontrolled by a supervisory security facility that provides a very flexible but stringentmethod for accommodating different types of user.

CCH2000 provides a vehicle for compiling comprehensive health care records for childrenand uses additional facilities/links to do so:

» WEB enabled version» Maternity system link» Pathology system link» Automatic upload of email from CIS» NN4B Project» NHS Tracing Service» Block changing of GPs, HVs, Schools etc» Electronic transfer of records when children move» File production for issue to Registrar» Post coding/Addressing

CCH2000 is recognised by CHIC and is compliant with their specification forChild Health systems. All statutory requirements will be included in the

system as standard, with other enhancements and amendments beingconsidered by User representatives attending the CCH2000 User Group.
