RETURNING TO IN-PERSON WORSHIP Since we last met together much has changed, but your love for and commitment to our church has not been shaken. Thank you for the prayers, generous giving and support for each other you have shown while we have been physically apart. Praise God, the time has come when we can begin meeting togeth-er again for worship.

On July 12 we will have all three of our services. Traditional worship will be at 8:45 and 11:00. Contem-porary worship will be at 9:00. Please note this change in time. It would not be correct to say that we will gather “as usual” because we all recognize that we are not back to our old normal. As we resume worship we will make changes that will allow us to be together as safely as possible. As you may know, our bishop has established requirements for us that are based on the best medical advice available and, for all our sakes, we will observe best practices. There are four “non-negotiables”: facial coverings, social distance, accurate attendance records and cleaning.

We are called to love one another, and it is clear that masks and social distance are the best ways to protect those we love. Everyone attending worship will be required to wear a mask throughout the ser-vice with the exception of those leading worship while they are leading. Much as we want to show how much we have missed seeing each other, we must maintain at least six feet of distance from everyone with whom we do not share an address, and we must forego hugs, handshakes and elbow bumps.

We must have an absolutely complete and accurate record of everyone who attended and which service. We need your help with this. You must enter through the narthex regardless of which service you are at-tending. We must ask you to help us further by not letting anyone slip in by another door. We will have a table set up for you to check in and we need everyone to stop and record your presence. We will be cleaning and sanitizing the parts of the church we use before and between services. As far as possible, we are working to make everything as touch-free as possible.

We are adapting our worship to our responsibility to make it as safe as possible. Worship will be 30 minutes or less. There will be no congregational singing. Much as we love to raise our voices in praise, we know that singing poses extra risk. There will be no choir, but we will be blessed with the gifts of so-loists and small ensembles. We will not pass a collection plate, but there will be an opportunity to leave an offering before you go. We will not offer a nursery.

Even as we do all we can to make worship as safe as possible we recognize that the available medical and scientific resources have identified certain high-risk criteria. Because we love you, we cannot ask those of you who are over the age of 65 and also persons of any age who have significant health impair-ments to attend worship for the time being. We will continue to offer worship opportunities online. The decision to attend our services is one that involves risks which each person accepts. AUMC cannot in-sure absolutely the safety of those who choose to attend and worship.

Thank you again for your support and continuing faithfulness. — Glenn
