C o n c e p t S t a t e m e n t :

To create a culturally inclusive complex at the geographical center of cal poly’s campus. It shall serve as a landmark for the uni versity, which will resonate in the memories of all who experience it. The space will seek to be the optimum environment for education, supporting both students and faculty alike.

Using allegory and symbolism from the math and science realm to create a sense of place with interactivity imbued into every landscape element.

Circulation was derived from the natural tendencies of pedestrian circulation in relation to such terrain and building massing that the site provides. This method informed the critical ma-jor pathway system. Secondary pathways were provided for exploratory circulation in which users are rewarded with tactile and interactive stimuli in the ground plane.

The south building concept is based on a monocoque building massing in which the shell of the building supports the structural load. This technique creates building massing that seems carved of molded out of a single material mass.
