By Myra Radlow Fall and Winter are busy times for preventative and pre-parative maintenance around the house. Here are some items to consider doing in the next couple of months.

Trim low-hanging branches that might bother people walking by your house.

Trim heavy branches to avoid them breaking and falling on your house or car!

Clean, sharpen and oil garden tools.

Plant bulbs, like tuberous begonias, crocus, nerine, tulips and freesia, for spring blooms.

Check weatherproofing around doors and win-dows to avoid drafts.

Clean out gutters and downspouts. Be ready for El Nino!

Check roof and exterior walls for warps, cracks or separations where rain might come in. Bin-oculars are quite helpful for this task.

Repaint any wooden surfaces where moisture could get it.

Fertilize or reseed your lawn, as needed.

Check furnace for dust, lint or any obstructions of the vents; change filter if needed.

Some people like to have a rooter company come out annually to make sure everything flows easily from the house to the sewer. Others think it is best to wait until a problem seems to be evident before calling a rooter company. I have not found anyone who can say defini-tively which way is best, but I can tell you that the Irvine Ranch Water District cleans out their sewer pipes every three years or so as a standard procedure.

Don’t forget to take down any Holiday decorations by January 15, 2016.

Have a Happy New Year!!!

Halloween Family Fun Night The Clubhouse was full of little monsters,

witches and superheroes at the Halloween

Family Fun Night! There were lots of games to

play and prizes to be won. The evening ended

with a costume parade around the pool and

contest. Many thanks to all our volunteers for

their help to make the evening a great suc-

cess!
