Of Interest To All
4-H Enrollment
4-H and FFA members and adult volunteer
enrollments are due by JANUARY 5 for both re-
enrolling and NEW members! NO changes will be
accepted after this new deadline date! Go to
https://wi.4honline.com to enroll. New members,
click on the User Guide for WI 4-H Families for
detailed instructions. There are also directions posted
for those re-enrolling.
Note for new families: Even if you live in a different
county, enter Shawano County when you set up your
profile if you wish to be a member of a Shawano
County club.
New families may join 4-H at any time, however,
January 5th is the last day they may enroll and still be
eligible to show at the Shawano County Fair.
Special Note: Anyone attending Super Saturday
simply needs to contact the UWEX
office to let us know if you wish to
join or add a project based on your
experience there. These requests
need to be submitted within a week
of Super Saturday!
Congratulations, Gold Seal Clubs
Several clubs in Shawano County received 3 gold
seals for their efforts this year! To receive these, a
club must achieve at least a 90% achievement rate, at
least 150 points in leadership and organization, and
245 or more points in programming. Way to go:
Wolf River, Waukechon Wildcats, Town Line,
Seneca Stingers, Landstad, Gresham Town &
Country, County Line, Country Korner, Caroline
Aces, Bonduel, Belle Plaine, Angelica 4-H Clubs!
Brener Youthful Workers, Maple Grove Countryside,
and Tilleda Timberwolves were very close, achieving
2 gold and one silver seal which is still a great effort!
We would encourage all other clubs to evaluate their
programs and begin to set their goals for the coming
year. Encourage all members to follow through 4-H
from enrollment to achievement and be active in club
activities.
4-H Super Saturday! Mark January 6th, on your calendars as the eighth
Annual Shawano County 4-H Super Saturday!
What is 4-H Super Saturday? This is a day when
guest speakers and 4-H project leaders will offer
learning sessions on a variety of topics throughout the
day. You get to choose which sessions you attend
according to your interests. There will be sessions for
both youth and adults, so the whole family is invited!
You can come for the morning only, afternoon only,
or the entire day! The choice is yours. At some
sessions, you will start and/or possibly complete a
project that you can exhibit at the fair. The
December Clover Line will have final details and
registration information.
Our Super Saturday event will be held at Shawano
High School with registration at 8:00-8:30 am, and
sessions running from 8:30 am to noon. There will
be a break for lunch, with afternoon sessions running
from 1:00 to 2:00pm (note: some sessions will last
until 2:30). This event is also open to non 4-H
families, giving them an opportunity to see what
4-H is all about. So feel free to invite some friends
or relatives to our Super Saturday event!
Right now, we are looking for anyone (older youth or
adult or teams) to teach a topic you feel may be of
interest to others in the county. Contact Terri if you
can help!
For those planning ahead: Officer training will be at
8:30 with New Leader VIP training beginning at 9:40.
Friends of 4-H Are there people or businesses contributing
significantly to the Shawano County 4-H Program
who aren’t receiving county recognition? Please let
us know. We are in the process of updating our
“Friends of 4-H” file and would like to know their
names, what they contributed, and, if possible, the
number of years they have contributed. Contact Terri
at the UWEX office as soon as possible.
We also have certificates available for individual
clubs to present to their friends of 4-H in their local
areas. If you would like some of these, pick them up
at the UW-Extension office. Let’s give our “Friends”
the recognition and thanks they deserve!
Safe Haven” Help During Holidays!
“Safe Haven” is a domestic abuse support center of
Shawano County. Families that seek shelter at Safe
Haven have many needs. Always needed are gas
and grocery cards. Also donations disinfectant
wipes, cold medicine (adult & child), size 4 and 5
diapers, haircut certificates and dry pasta meals are
appreciated. If interested in this community service
project, please call them at 715-526-3421.
Crafts and Food in Tilleda
Kitchen Maids HCE will be having their annual
craft and bake sale on Sunday, November 19th from
9:30am to 2:00pm at the Tilleda Town Hall.
The Tilleda Timberwolves 4-H Club will be serving
lunch, including chili and chicken dumpling soup.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome!
Want to earn some cold hard cash? The Dairy Key Committee is looking for help in
designing a new county sign that can be used as
part of the dairy exhibit at the WI State Fair as the
old sign is a bit outdated. And they are willing to
pay for the best idea! ANY 4-H’er can submit an
entry or you can submit one as a club. The only
requirement is that the sign must be easily readable
from a distance. There will be a cash prize of $25
for the entry chosen by the committee. The sign
will be hung over an aisle in the dairy barn so will
be about 3’X3’ or 2’X4’ just to give you an idea of
space. But your submission does not need to be that
large. Entries are due by February 1 to the UW-
Extension Office, Attn: Dairy Key.
Bell Ringers for Kettle Campaign
Times will be in two hour increments, beginning at
9:00am and ending at 7:00pm. Dates are

This site has copies of our Clover Line newsletter
as well as registrations and application forms.
In addition, you’ll find information on all of our
program areas of UWEX: Agriculture, 4-H &
Family Living, Natural Resources and Community
Development.
While you are at it, why not “like” Shawano
County 4-H on Facebook? There are photos and
other updates that are posted there giving you more
up to date information.
Summer Camp 2018 - Confirmed
July 23-27 at Camp Susan north of Antigo
The fee for summer camp next year will remain
$90 per person for 4-H members and $100 for non-
4Her’s. This is a super deal for five days of camp
with transportation, meals and activities included.
Jr Fair Building Wish List Those of you who were at the Shawano County fair
this last year probably noticed quite a few
improvements. Again a very sincere thank you to
the Huntington family for their generous donation
toward the exterior of the 4-H building. For safety
and mobility reasons we are still looking for
additional pieces to furnish the inside. If you or
your club would like to donate toward something
we are still looking for additional mobile
photography and visual art displays. We are also
looking for enclosed glass cabinets for foods and
cakes. Donations of $200-500 will allow us to
purchase each of the needed items. This will also
give you a small plaque with your name on it as
well as a spot on the donor sign yet to be made.
Some individuals have given in memory of a loved
one. If you would like more information please
contact our office. You can also see more online at
https://shawano.uwex.edu/how-to-become-a-4-h-
supporter/donations/
Enrollment Tips Soon you’ll be signing up for new projects for the
upcoming year. Consider the following:
ALL enrollments for current 4-H and FFA
members are due on JANUARY 5! See
https://wi.4honline.com to enroll.
While you can enroll in up to 5 projects (plus
Youth Leadership), be realistic in your time
commitments. Animal related projects can take
a LOT of time to be done well.
Did you know that ANY youth member can
take entries to the fair in Recycling and you
don’t have to be enrolled in that project to do
so? This may be helpful for those of you who
find it hard to limit yourself to 5 projects. The
same is true for all Safety and Citizenship
entries found in Dept. 134, Health, Social and
Political Science.
There are unlimited possibilities for you to
explore in Youth Leadership. Opportunities
include taking charge of a community service
project, assisting with your club or project
leader, serving on County Key committees,
being a camp counselor, and much more.
If you are a youth leader you can indicate in the
online enrollment process which projects you
would like to help with. Please do so. This will
help the club leaders know who they can ask
for assistance!
Do you have an interest that just doesn’t seem
to fall into any other category? Well, then Self-
Determined is just what you’re looking for.
You have the freedom to create your own
project by identifying resources, outlining a
plan, then completing and evaluating it.
International Exchange Opportunities Shawano County 4-H members and volunteers have
an opportunity to travel with a national 4-H
delegation. Possible countries include: Costa Rica,
Norway, Japan, & South Korea! 4-H families also
have an opportunity to host international guests! Check
out https://wi4hinternational.org/ for more info.
Deadlines vary.
4-H Winter Leadership Camp Feb. 9, 7:00 pm, to Feb. 11, 11:00 am
Want to have fun with other middle school youth
from around eastern Wisconsin? Then come join
the fun at Camp TaPaWingo!
This 4-H Winter Leadership Camp will help youth
improve their leadership skills by focusing on
teamwork, communication, decision-making
through hands-on, interactive workshops. Youth
will also participate in a variety of recreational
choices including snowshoeing, sledding,
tubing, hikes, and just hanging out. Your
cost is approximately $40 as the 4-H
Leaders, Inc pick up half the total cost.

November 13th.
State 4-H Conference – What’s That? June 25-28th, 2018
About 600 4-H’ers attend this event in Madison
each June. As a participant, you take part in
educational seminars and assemblies. Just a few of
the topics are: Medical Careers, Meet Elected
Officials, Creative Stamping, Genetics of Small
Animals, Windsurfing, Beginning PowerPoint,
Learning to solder, Kayaking, Rock Climbing,
Canoeing and Bicycling.
Qualifications: must be currently in 7th-10th grade
and turn in a completed member application or
resume/portfolio by Nov. 13th. Call Terri with
questions.
Cash Fair Checks Now With the closing of the 4-H year, we would like to
remind 4-H and FFA members and clubs to be sure
to cash their fair checks by November 30th. 4-H
members should note that if they have not handed
in a completed record book to their general leader,
they will not be receiving a fair premium
check or 4-H pin. Any errors in checks
should be reported to the Shawano
County Fair Office at 715-526-5419.
Don & Bernice Schoedel/Shawano
County 4-H Endowment Fund
Our endowment fund is invested with the
Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, and earns interest
income, which can be used each year to fund
various project activities, equipment purchases, etc.
Both 4-H clubs and Key Committees may apply for
monies from the fund. Persons wishing to make
donations to the fund are asked to contact the
Shawano County UWEX office. Gifts can be made
as a memorial or in honor of someone, directed to a
specific county program or for program support.
We thank all 4-H Clubs for participating in our
“Penny Wars” competition at the County Fair
(remember all those big jugs full of coins in the Jr.
Fair Building?) This fun yet effective event raised
$434 for our 4-H Endowment Fund!
At this time, the Don and Bernice Schoedel/
Shawano County 4-H Endowment Fund has a
market value of over $60,000 with estimated
annual income of $1,500 for our use next year.
