A message from the Head Welcome to our October edition of our newsletter. This month is packed with loads of information—do take a look inside! From our Christmas Fair to a new date for our next

Parent Forum, there are a number of dates for your diaries.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all again for your generous donations towards our Harvest appeal for the Waveney Food Bank. As a school we like to support local and national charities and this half term will be supporting Children in Need with our PJ day.

As you know, we had to close the school for the day earlier in the month due to a burst water pipe: thank you for your understanding. We are pleased to say that the affected

rooms are drying out nicely and our library is now back in use.

I have been extremely proud to show round visitors recently; our children are kind, well-behaved, marvellous-mannered individuals who are clearly enjoying their learning and

challenging themselves. We have had lots of really positive feedback—well done, everyone! I can’t wait to show prospective parents round on our Open Day, please do spread the word!

From dinosaur digs with our budding palaeontologists in Early Years, to adventures in the savanna with our wildlife experts in Year 1, children and staff are busy being ’learners for life’. Do join us at our upcoming Activity Cafes to learn along with us—invites our shortly!

Remember to follow us on Facebook or Twitter, which we regularly update with what the children have been up to, school events and news.

Attendance

November’s Online Safety Tip A simple and effective way to get involved with your children and their lives online is through discussion.

• Ask you children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.

• Ask them about how they stay safe online.

• Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together.

It is our policy that we will not allow any child to go

home with another adult unless we have had verbal

agreement prior to this by a parent/

carer.

Outside Education

At The Limes we strongly believe in the benefits of education outside. Therefore you will often find us out in all weathers! Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing (coat, hat, gloves, wellie boots, waterproofs) and ensure they are all clearly named!

Research has shown that that colds and coughs etc. spread more rapidly in hot environments therefore there are also health (as well as educational )benefits to being outside at this time of year.

All parents recently received a letter regarding their child’s attendance up until the end of the first half term. We monitor attendance very closely at The Limes Academy as we recognise the strong link between academic achievement and rates of attendance. Parents will receive a letter at the end of every half term informing them of their child’s attendance. Should a child’s attendance drop below 90%, we will ask that any further absences are supported with medical evidence i.e. appointment slip from your GP or evidence of prescribed medication. If a child’s attendance continues to drop we will invite parents in for a meeting to discuss attendance and offer support .

We do not authorise term-time holiday and referrals for Penalty Notices (fine of £60.00 per parent per child) will be made to County if child has six or more unauthorised absences (there are two sessions per day).

If a child is absent from school for whatever reason, the reason for the absence must be given to the school. You must telephone the absence line by 9am on the day of the first absence and any other subsequent days. If no reason is provided by parents, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Children arriving late to school after the register closes at 9am will also receive unauthorised absence for the morning session. Please ensure you child arrives at school on time between 8.35am and 8.50am.

Pick Up

Thank you to all who attended the recent parent consultations. We know how important it is for parents to know how their child is doing in school. We also have a number of Activity Cafes coming up in November, which will give you the opportunity to see what your child is learning in the classroom.

We ask for parent feedback regularly as parents’ views are extremely important to us and helps us to keep continuously improving. Thank you to everyone who has returned their parent questionnaire.

Our next Parent Forum is on Tuesday 19th November at 9am (please note change of date previously advertised on last Newsletter), please come along for a chat with Mrs Cracknell. We will be looking at the recent outcomes of the questionnaire and what we can do to improve. Parent feedback really does matter to us!

Oxford Reading Buddy

We sent out log ins for all children for the Oxford Reading Buddy at the end of last term and asked for parent feedback.

We haven’t received much feedback from parents and would urge you to do so. This is a trial and we will not renew the subscription if we do not get enough feedback from parents.

Please could we have your feedback by Friday 15th November.

The Friends have organised a book swap shelve. This is where you can leave any used book you no longer want and then have the opportunity to grab you or your child a new one! The book shelf will be located in the office reception and any small donations left for books will go towards more books the school library.

The Friends Book Swap OPEN DAY

Friday 8th November 2019

The Limes Primary Academy will

be holding our Open Day for

children due to start primary

school in September 2020.

Parents and children are

welcome to drop in to see our

brand new school in action!

Tours will be available at 10am,

11am, 1pm, 2pm and 4pm. No

booking necessary—pop along

on the day!

Please spread the word!

We will be holding our first ever Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday 23rd November 10.30am-12pm.

As well as some amazing craft stalls, there will be lots for the children to do including making reindeer food, Christmas tree cup game and lots of other fun activities.

Santa’s Elves will be visiting the fair to add some extra Christmas magic!

If you know anyone who would be interested in running a stall, we still have stalls available, so please ask them to contact the office.

We would love to see all our families and friends of families at the fair, so please spread the word!

Children in Need is on the 15th November, will be asking children to come to school in their favourite pyjamas to support this amazing cause. We will be asking for a small donation of £1 which will be donated to Children in Need.

The school photographer will be in school on Tuesday 19th November.

We have opted to use a different photographer this year. The company is called YEP and have come highly recommended from other REAch2 Schools.

We have opted for the double pose photos, which means the photographer will take two different variations of photos, one being the more traditional style school photo and the other a full length photo. Parents will then have the choice as to which photo they would prefer to purchase. Photos will be back in time for Christmas.

YEP have a cash-less ordering system, so all orders must be placed online through them—details of how to purchase photos will be on your proof card.

Nursery children will be photographed first. If your child is not usually in on a Tuesday morning, you are more than welcome to bring your child to school at 9am in order that they can have their photos taken.
