Daily Mass (M-F): livestream at 8 am EDT Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
(St. Alphonsus Liguori, CSsR, 1696-1787)
Holy Week 2020 “We do not pretend that life is all beauty. We are aware of
darkness and sin, of poverty and pain. But we know Jesus has conquered sin and passed through his own pain to the glory of
the Resurrection. And we live in the light of his Paschal Mystery - the mystery of his Death and Resurrection. We are an
Easter People and Alleluia is our song!” -Pope St. John Paul II, Adelaide, Australia, November 30, 1986
Dear Brothers & Sisters: These are incredibly challenging days for us, as we weather the ferocious storm of the Coronavirus pandemic. We experience anxiety, fear, and sorrow. But our observance of these holiest days of the year also summons us to hope and even joy. How is this possible? The suffering of these days has the potential, if we allow it, to bring us closer to the suffering Christ. It can bring us to a new appreciation of the gift of His sacrifice for us, and to a deeper acceptance of this gift that has the power to transform us from within. Uniting our suffering with His, we will find the grace to persevere through this time of sorrow without losing heart. For the first disciples who discovered Jesus’ empty tomb and then encountered Him on that first Easter Sunday, it must have been difficult to believe that He had truly risen from the dead, and that He was really offering them His peace. He changed their mourning and despair into joy. And if we allow it, He will do the same for us, reminding us that He has conquered every evil, so that nothing that can happen to us can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39). As our Eastern brethren sing in the Paschal Troparion, “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and on those in the tombs bestowing life!” It is a painful reality that this Easter, just when we need it most, we are unable to gather together to worship and to sing “Alleluia,” expressing the hope and joy that we all need so badly. But, there are a number of ways that we can continue to live our faith and support each other in this time: Viewing Mass Online Please join me and my Oratorian brothers as we offer live and on-demand streaming video of the liturgies of the Sacred Paschal Triduum through the Raritan Oratory channel on YouTube: Holy Thursday (April 9): Mass at 7:00 pm; Compline (Night Prayer) at 10:00 pm Good Friday (April 10): Service at 3:00 pm Holy Saturday (April 11): Easter Vigil at 8:00 pm Easter Sunday (April 12): Mass at 8:00 am Until we are able to resume public Masses, we will continue to offer streaming video of Mass, on Sundays at 8 am (English), 10 am (Latin), & 12 noon (Spanish), and Monday through Friday at 8 am (English). I encourage everyone to make frequent spiritual communions and to use this time creatively to nourish your faith and deepen your devotion. Visiting Our Church Currently (subject to change given the fluid nature of the current situation), we are able to offer these opportunities for private prayer and Confession:
(continued next page)
Private Prayer: Church of the Holy Trinity: Monday - Friday from 10am – 12 noon Church of St. Ann, Raritan: Monday - Friday from 11 am – 3 pm (Note: the churches will not be open for private prayer Good Friday or Easter Monday.)
Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession):
Church of the Holy Trinity: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 10–12 Church of St. Ann, Raritan: Friday evenings from 6:30-7:30 (2 priests available) (Note: Confession will not be available on Good Friday or Easter Monday.) Confession is almost always available by appointment; please call or email to schedule.
Note that all must observe CDC guidelines for hygiene and social distancing while visiting the church. No more than 10 persons may be present in the Church at any one time. A minimum 6-foot distance is to be kept at all times, except between members of the same household. Staying Connected & Informed As the Coronavirus situation has developed so rapidly, we have been adjusting plans and schedules frequently. It’s important to us that we keep you informed on what is happening at your parish. I’m excited to introduce a new tool that will help us to do that more effectively: Flocknote is a trusted messaging platform designed for churches and their members to get and stay connected. It allows you to choose how to receive messages from us, and it doesn’t require you to download an app. Simply visit our website to sign up, or text JoinHT to 84576 to get started. You can always check our website, www.holytrinitynj.org, and our Facebook page (Church of the Holy Trinity, Bridgewater) for current information, guidelines, prayer resources, and schedules. There has been an incredible wealth of Catholic material (lectures, podcasts, prayer services, novenas, articles, etc.) shared online for free in recent weeks. I encourage everyone to take advantage of these opportunities for growth. While our parish office is closed to the public, you can still contact us as usual by phone or email if you have a pastoral need. Supporting Our Parish Thank you to all who have made the effort to continue your financial support of our parish, either by mailing in your envelopes or joining the growing number of parishioners using Online Giving through our website. If you haven’t already, please consider signing up for Online Giving; it is easy, safe and secure, and helps ensure that we can continue to meet our obligations. I know that this is a difficult time for everyone, and you may be anxious about your own finances, too. I simply encourage everyone to continue making your contributions according to ability, and I will continue to do my best to be a good steward of the resources you entrust to the Church. Finally, I want to thank everyone who has been sending emails and notes, inquiring about our well-being, and offering prayers and assistance. This is an amazing community that I feel
deeply blessed to serve. Let’s continue to pray for each other as we look forward to being together again. May God bless you and your families with the joy of Easter and the hope of eternal life!
In Christ & St. Philip Neri, Fr. Jeff
First Reading: Acts 10:34a, 37-43 In this passage, Peter testifies that he and his followers saw the miracles performed by Christ, witnessed His death, and believe in His resurrection. Now they will proclaim to all that Christ is the Son of God. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 Paul tells the Colossians that they will appear with Christ in glory. They should be mindful of things above rather than things on earth. Gospel: John 20:1-9 In vivid detail, John tells us that when Mary Magdalene visited Christ’s tomb, the tomb was empty. She told the apostles, who ran to the tomb, and saw the “wrappings” on the ground. The disciple who entered first “saw and believed.”

Stewards Experience Easter We are an Easter people. The joy of Easter is celebrated not only during the liturgical season we call Easter. It is celebrated every day of the year. The Mass is the Paschal Mystery, and every time it is celebrated, we participate in the sacrifice, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Saint Paul teaches, we die with Christ and rise with Him in the Holy Spirit. We are transformed into new creations. We are renewed.
"Having faith does not mean having no difficulties, but having the strength to face them, knowing we are not alone."
-Pope Francis
St. Gerard Majella is the Patron Saint of Pregnant Mothers and of Childbirth. Please remember pregnant mothers in your prayers, as they struggle with concerns for their babies during this pandemic.
Prayer to St. Gerard St. Gerard,
You worshiped Jesus as the Lord of Life. I ask you today to pray
For my special intention.
Lift up to Jesus All those who seek to conceive a child, All those having difficult pregnancies,
All who have suffered the loss of a child, And all who lovingly lift up their children to God.
Pray that all of us, By caring for mothers, fathers, and children
born and unborn May build a Culture of Life,
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal
Stepping Forward in Faith: Grace in Action Through your support of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal you help those in our diocese whose needs are the greatest — the poor, the homeless, and those struggling with illness or grief. Among other needed pastoral ministries, your gift also supports the formation of seminarians and enhances the work of campus ministry through the Catholic Center at Rutgers University. The many pastoral, educational and charitable ministries of the Diocese of Metuchen would not be possible without a generous contribution from every household. Please prayerfully consider a gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal to help our parish reach its goal. If we can exceed our goal, 50% of the amount collected over goal will be returned to us in the form of a parish rebate. Just as important as our financial goal is our goal of reaching 100% participation. Every gift, no matter the size, is important and greatly appreciated. Thank you.
To date, the Development Office has received pledges totaling $33,571.23 and payments totaling $25,709.41 from 129 parishioners. This represents 51.6% of your $65,000.00 goal. Thank you for your efforts.
