Last week Viv and I had the opportunity of visiting Jim Tinney at home. Jim is very happy to be home and

Heather to have him home. He is quite bright and can move around using his 2 crutches although he is still a

little unsteady. He has been confined to the house and I know would really appreciate any visits from friends.

However, it's a good idea to ring first as he is still having some physio.

Jean Stuart is coping extremely well with her damaged finger and also her dog recovering from surgery. Jean,

the six weeks remaining for the repair of your finger will fly by.

President’s Report 09-05-2017

Last Tuesday Wendy Harrison of Australian War Animals Memorials gave us a

very informative talk on the history and services of war dogs that served and

continue to serve the Australian Armed Forces.

Our Family Fun Day at Lou & Lyn Davies’ Winchelsea farm on Saturday was

everything it was meant to be. Lou and Lyn were fabulous hosts. The lunch

fare was sumptuous. Lyn also taught us about sheep rearing and the ways including devices used to ensure the

health and success of the project. Our gracious hosts made us forget the inclement weather that we

experienced in Winchelsea. Thank you, Lou and Lyn for a great time. Thanks to the following members,

partners and friends who made the trip with me: Ross and Pat Taylor, John and Dawn Anderson and their

friends Raffie and family, Marlene Sinclair, Stephen and Ruth Bode, Kevin and Margot Francis, John and Pat

Gander, Michael and Anne Jackomos, Greg and Cheryl O’Neill, Lorraine Brody and John Hexter. A special

thanks to John Hexter for driving the bus.

This Tuesday 9th May we will be recognizing 4 members of the community with Pride of Workmanship

Awards and a student with the Student Citizenship Award. It is going to be an exciting evening for the

awardees as well as us as a club. I look forward to a great evening.

Ticket sales for the concert has been rather slow to date. We have yet to reach the break-even number. An ‘all

out’ drive is required in the remaining weeks. So, friends, do what we can for your club. A big thank you

to all those who manned the counters at Chirnside Park and Croydon Central.

The final meeting for current Presidents and Assistant Governors with the District Governor and District

Leaders was on Friday 5th May 2017. Stephen Bode and I attended the meeting.

On Sunday 21st May 2017, the incoming Club Leaders will have their District Training Assembly at Deakin

University, Burwood Campus. There are sessions for all Directors and also for the newer members. All Board

Members should make it a point to attend. Please confirm with Stephen to register your names. quickly.

Please keep all our friends who are recovering well from various illnesses or mishaps in your thoughts.

Cheers

“HOW DOES CLUB ATTRACT YOUTHFUL MEMBERS?”

Beyond Borders/the Newsletter of Zones 24 & 32/March 2017/page 6

Wenatchee North Rotary in District 5060 is being transformed by a wave of talented young leaders who are

bringing fresh ideas and energy into the club.

The secret of the club’s success? Club members have intentionally sought out young professionals, invited

them to visit, and then found ways to let them give back to the community. As a result, the club is on a growth

curve to double its membership by the end of the year from the 30-some member size of just a few years ago.

Although the idea sounds sophisticated, it’s really quite simple. It all started a few years ago. Wenatchee’s

local business journal publishes a list of up-and-comer young business professionals. The club’s membership

chair, Rob Tidd, took that list and wrote personalized letters to each of the people named, inviting them to visit

and have lunch “on the club.” It didn’t take changes in meeting time, dues, approach, location, or anything

else: Just a personal invitation to come to a meeting.

Those who came and liked the vibe were asked to join. And in some cases, the new members have brought

their own friends to the club. As a result, Wenatchee North now has about 14 members under 35 years of age.

And it’s contagious: The energy of the younger members has rubbed off on the rest of the members, giving

them new inspiration.
