First Grade is off to a Great Start!
Learning Adventures in
Our OES first graders have been busy get-
ting the school year off to a great start! We
have been reviewing numbers and begin-
ning addition, having fun with our names
and manipulatives, diving into books, and
Dr. Castellani even stopped by each 1st
grade room to read a story! We have a lot
to learn in 1st grade, so keep up the great
work, 1st grade Chiefs!
Third Grade has been very busy doing STEAM activities! They love being creative ,
working with their peers, and participating in hands on activities.
Mrs. Delong’s class is testing
their engineering skills.
They used their Growth Mind-
set and never gave up.
Mrs. Greer’s class is proud of their raft.
They successfully completed the Apple
Raft Buoyancy Challenge.
Mr. Hogue's class works well
together. They cooperatively
constructed a class web!.
Parents and Students,
I am so proud of everyone’s help making this the best start ever! First, we truly appreciate our district transportation department and their
hard work ensuring that all bus riders were safe the first weeks of school. Our teachers and non-instructional staff came back to a clean,
shiny school thanks to the hard work of our custodial staff and Plant Operator, Mr. Fernandez. This allowed staff to begin preparing for the
year early and make the opening so special and seamless. I also appreciated the hard work of our secretarial staff, Mrs. Yates, Mrs. Wil-
liams, Mrs, Pita and Mrs. Beebe. Teachers had productive professional development prior to the start of school focused on Social and Emo-
tional Learning (SEL), data analysis, iReady, and safety measures. Our boys and girls came back eager to learn and did a fantastic job wel-
coming all new OES Chiefs. These new friendships will be lasting and by far the most rewarding part of my job!
We are excited about the opportunities provided to expand our Digital Learning opportunities this
year. Teachers will receive training throughout the year from our seven digital leaders!
Be sure to like us www.facebook.com/OESChiefs/ on Facebook and @OESCHIEFS on Twitter for
updates, videos, and good things happening at OES. Please also like our awesome PTO on Face-
book at www.facebook.com/OsceolaPTONaples. I also appreciate Mrs. Castleberry’s work to create
the Chief Chatter each month.
OES is the BEST!
Dr. Castellani, Principal
A Note From Our Principal…
Dr. Castellani!
5th graders studied Inferencing and created nonlinguistic repre-sentations of the evidence that
supported their inferences. "Gemma Forbis" from Ms.
Castor's class proudly presents her Egyptian pyramid and costume.
It’s Experiment Day in Ms. Smith’s Science Class! We are having so much fun learning about the Scientific Method. "Dylan Mccann, Charleigh Shanks-Valezquez, and Avery Algie" from Ms. Smith's class are nothing but smiles when it comes to flying paper airplanes.
It’s been an exciting start to the school year... Way to go Fifth Grade OES Chiefs!
Marvelous Media Matters Mrs . Cast leberry , Your Friendly Media Speciali s t
Enjoyable and Amazing Academic Accomplishment!
During the first 30 days of school this year, OES Chiefs read and passed the test (70%+) for 3,389 books! Our Chiefs have read 24,586,275 words in the 30 days of the school year! That means our Chiefs are reading nearly 1,000,000 words per day independently! We are so proud of this amazing accomplishment! OES Chiefs, READ!

The Art Studio Mrs. Green
I am so excited to see the students once again at Osceola Elementary School. Throughout
the school year, students in ALL grade levels will work with various artistic mediums
which include; crayons, markers, various types of paints, paper sculpture, and clay. Stu-
dents will bring home a portfolio at the end of the year that they will build through
the months, which enables them to see their progression as well as give you an easy
way to save their work for many years.
We will do projects that bring in cross-curricular subjects such as Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Cultur-
al History. Students will gain experience with past and present artists and their artistic styles. Continuously
through the school year, students are learning the parts that go into a piece of art known as
the 7 Elements of Art and how to properly use them in a piece known as the 7 Principles of
Design.
After students are finished with a piece of art, their piece will be pho-
tographed and shared on the OES online gallery through Art-
sonia.com. If your child had permission last year, it automatically
renews this year. Permission slips have been sent home in the
students’ Wednesday folders if an account has not been grant-
ed permission OR permission can be granted by the parent online. Check out the
website at Artsonia.com and search for Osceola Elementary to see our own art gal-
lery! The 4th and 5th graders at OES have taken part in an outreach program
through the Artis-Naples Museum of Art. Ms. Jessica Wozniak is the Education
Coordinator at Artis-Naples, and will assist me in bringing lessons to the students
that correlate to current exhibits at the museum. 4th graders will learn about an
artist named Steven Tobin, and use clay in a very exciting way. Our 5th graders
have experienced a collaborative project by making a mural that is themed around a
fun Prehistoric Era. Be sure to check out the bus pavilion once that is completed!
We Love Our Business
Partners! Thank you!
We all know that Osceola Elementary is an amazingly special and unique school! A large part of this is due to the strong business partner-ships we have established with local businesses in our community. At the start of this school year, we were once again amazed at the willingness, generosity, and support of our local business part-ners. In a time where educators are continuously asked to do more and more with less and less, the following business partners happily stepped up and helped us kick off the 2013-2014 with generous donations which came all sorts of shapes and siz-es! All of us at OES truly thank and appreciate you! OES wouldn't be the shining star that it is without your support!
