South Gulph Road in Upper Merion Township to the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown Spring 2019 - Winter 2020 The extension will include four miles of multi-use trail; installing three pedestrian bridges (South Gulph Road, Henderson Road, and Boro Line Road); enhancing two bridges for increased bike and pedestrian use; and renovating the historic freight station building at the conuence of the Chester Valley Trail and the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown. The project is funded in part by the federal Congestion Management and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant program, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources C2P2 grant program, and the William Penn Foundation. The Chester Valley Trail Extension Montgomery County is extending the Chester Valley Trail by four miles from South Gulph Road in Upper Merion Township through Bridgeport Borough and connecting to the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown. Today, the trail extends 13 miles through the Great Valley with some segments making use of PECO right- of-way and local roads. The trail will be 10 to 12 feet wide with an asphalt or concrete surface for walking, bicycling, and other recreational uses. TIMELINE OF THE CHESTER VALLEY TRAIL EXTENSION CONSTRUCTION and Malvern regions of Chester County. When the trail extension is complete, it will offer trail access from Philadelphia, Plymouth Meeting, Collegeville, and major employment hubs and retail centers in King of Prussia.
