Our Mission STATEMENT The mission of St. Luke Parish is to create a welcoming, faith filled, religious environment where relationships both spiritual and personal are built upon the teachings of Jesus Christ. We are a vibrant Catholic community open to diverse attitudes, approaches and paths, centered on Catholic principles and beliefs. Works of charity, human concerns and spiritual development are fostered and nurtured through participation in the sacraments, our parish liturgies and ministries. We are a people of dreams, seeking to experience Christ in ourselves, our families, the community and the world around us. SAINT LUKE PARISH The Changing Seasons In his book, “Home coming”, author John Bradshaw focuses on the reclaiming and championing of the inner child. He suggests in one quote, ....reclaiming the inner child involves going back into the early stages of life and finishing the unfinished business.” This is an extremely important aspect to a healthy emotional focus on life. Isn’t it true we move so quickly through life that we seldom take the time to really understand the tremendous power within each one of us that often lies dormant because of earlier experiences that left us standing in our tracks and stuffing our feelings into a dormant state. Sad, but true - at some point we have all been faced to face with our real feelings and do not know what to do next. It is the wounded person who has the best opportunity to allow healing to become a reality in their lives. This week we celebrate an American tradition, Thanksgiving! This is the day that focuses on a table and a meal. Love ones come from far and near to take their place around that table. Some who find their way to your table may not have been there for a while. Some may only be there in spirit. But it has been this traditional feast that has allowed us to take a step back and to focus on the quality of our lives and the importance we place on relationships and family. Think about it! No matter what the turmoil or dysfunction we may have experienced this is an opportunity to revisit and to allow healing and affirmation to take place. It is a teaching moment for our kids as well. They learn from us and they in turn will teach their kids as well. If we do not get it right now Lord knows when we will. This all sounds very idealistic. For some, though, this time of the year is too much to bear. Their experience of days gone by, whether recent or years, may caused pain and bring up emotions that are difficult to handle - their childhood was not that marvelous or the thought of revisiting the emotions of losing someone close may be too much to embrace. Psychologists and writers will tell us that the greatest instrument of healing and wholeness is the family. Often distance and dysfunction will cause that family image to be blemished. Perhaps the expectations placed on members of a family can cause challenge and bitterness. Sometimes that beautiful image of the table can be a source of anger and not growth. But what I find myself accepting more these days is that unless we see ourselves as part of a family model, whether that is a traditional model; a single-parent model, a Christian community model, then we have much more to do in understanding the real reason for the holidays and the changing seasons in our lives. For what purpose than do we celebrate Thanksgiving? Like our changing seasons - it is another opportunity to appreciate who we are - to give life to others - to thank God for his participation in our journey - and to definitively tell the world that life is a gift and no one will ever be able to take that gift away. And so, this Thursday, the Feast of Thanksgiving, let go of past hurts and prejudices or expectations and be filled with awe as you experience the season and colors of your life changing. This is another year another opportunity to embrace what is good in your life. Make room for new images around your table. Join us here at our table of plenty this Thursday and bring the family with you. Happy Thanksgiving to the Parish Family of St. Luke! The Changing Seasons

In his book, “Home coming”, author John Bradshaw focuses on the reclaiming and championing of the inner child. He suggests in one quote, “....reclaiming the inner child involves going back into the early stages of life and finishing the unfinished business.” This is an extremely important aspect to a healthy emotional focus on life. No matter what the turmoil or dysfunction we may have experienced – this is an opportunity to revisit and to allow healing and affirmation to take place. It is a teaching moment for our kids as well. They learn from us and they in turn will teach their kids as well. If we do not get it right now – Lord knows when we will. This all sounds very idealistic. For some, though, this time of the year is too much to bear. Their experience of days gone by, whether recent or years, may caused pain and bring up emotions that are difficult to handle - their childhood was not that marvelous – or the thought of revisiting the emotions of losing someone close may be too much to embrace. Th

We often associate the month of November with the harvest. The image of the harvest is a great one to help your child understand the beauty of our Catholic parish. One way to do this is to share with your family our parish bulletin each week.

Our parish bulletin offers information about liturgies, outreach activities, organizations in the parish, and prayer requests. Maybe you will notice in the bulletin an opportunity for your family to increase the harvest by participating in special events or joining in community outreach activities.

We enjoy a bountiful harvest of goodness through our labors as faithful Catholics. Help your child become aware of the love and care our parish offers in the name of Jesus.
