OVERVIEWThe groundbreaking Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study revealed a direct correlation between traumatic (”adverse”) childhood experiences and a wide range of emotional, cognitive, physical and behavioral challenges in youth and adults. The Central Iowa ACEs 360 Steering Committee has undertaken efforts to survey Iowa’s population and to analyze how ACEs impact the state’s overall health and well-being. This information is a critical step in beginning to understand and address many of our state’s most costly medical, psychiatric and social problems.

SUMMIT OBJECTIVES: • Receive the first-ever collection and analysis of Iowa data on adverse childhood experiences and their impact • Understand how various sectors are using the original ACE Study and trauma-informed principles to improve services to children, families and adults • Learn how communities are addressing problems through multi-disciplinary teams focused on trauma as the root of many shared challenges • Discover resources available to increase the awareness and impact of ACEs and how communities can work to prevent and reduce ACEs in Iowa • Begin to develop a plan for how your community can respond to the challenges highlighted by this study
