The Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy Center) Kathleen Hebbeler & Donna Spiker, SRI International Division for Early Childhood’s 32nd Annual International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families Louisville, KY October 2016 What We Do We provide TA and resources to development and enhancement of their states for the data systems for Part C early intervention and Part B preschool special education programs. Why Our Work Is Important Did you know that only 34% of Part C programs report linking child-level data to or using the same data system as Part B 619? These data are from an online survey we sent to states in 2015. Other data from this survey can be found on our interactive State of the State Maps by visiting http://dasycenter.org/state-of-the-states/. How DaSy Is Supporting States with Their Data Systems Since its launch in December 2013, DaSy has provided technical assistance (TA) to all 61 U. S. states and territories, including the District of Columbia. Responsive and tailored to state needs, our TA has included: Developing Online Learning Modules & Toolkits Supporting State Systemic Improvement Plans Providing Individualized TA to States on Data Systems Facilitating 3 Topic Cohorts (intensely working with small groups of states on areas of shared interest) Powerful Data for 619 Linking C and 619 Data Including IFSPs in Your Data System Example: Data Visualization Toolkit Helping Families Get Involved in State Data System Efforts 2-Day Family Data Institutes in 2015 & 2016 Hosting 3 National Conferences Framework for High-Quality Data Systems • DaSy worked closely with states and with partner TA centers to develop The DaSy Data System Framework. • It is organized around six interrelated subcomponents that DaSy believes are crucial for Part C and Part B Section 619 programs to consider when developing a new data system or enhancing an existing one. Data Use Purpose & Vision Sustainability Stakeholder Engagement Data Governance & Management Data System Framework System Design & Development We have developed numerous resources to support states’ use of our Framework, including a Self-Assessment Tool to identify priorities for improvement.
