We are so excited to welcome you for a new season of “Friends, Fun and Belonging” at The Center for Enriched Living (The Center). This guide showcases our wide range of quality programs, activities and events – all created exclusively for you!

This fall, look for two new programs that we are rolling out based on feedback we received from you. Our new Tuesday Night Arts Program allows you to find your creative voice with local artists who will be leading this inspired course. Additionally, we are so excited for our new monthly Open Mic & Art Night on Saturdays. Everyone can participate and showcase their talents in front of your friends! Along with all of our other outstanding programs, we are sure that you will find something that will interest, challenge and even excite you!

Do you have an idea for a new place to visit, a new transportation route, or a new program we should offer? Continue giving us your feedback so we can continue providing you with new programs you want to connect with friends, achieve new goals and learn lifelong skills. You can drop me a line at [email protected] anytime with your input!

I look forward to welcoming you this fall!

The plant grows and grows, as does Seymour's infatuation for Audrey, but who will get her first? FEED ME SEYMOUR!

FALLCOOKING: SOUPS AND STEWS Learning to use seasonal produce, visiting farmers markets, planning the menu and using iPads and the tech room to research ideas are all part of this Sunday afternoon experience. Members may even have the opportunity to create a new recipe of their own!

ART: DRAWING AND PAINTING Artists begin by being introduced to some basic skill building activities and transition into developing their own work, at their own pace, with their choice of materials (pencil, charcoal, pen, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, block printing ink, etc.). Utilize technology to research ideas and trips to the library to check out books on master artists will round out the class.

EXPLORERS CLUb On a beautiful fall afternoon, what’s better than exploring the local community? Hiking, visiting area museums, cooking class at Whole Foods, visiting an artist's studio, going to a play or musical, fishing, milking cows at Wagner Farm, are just a few of the many places to go. Members are issued a "passport" that gets stamped at each destination to keep track of their adventures.

WINTERGLObAL ADVENTURES Learn about different cuisine from all around the world, and create recipes from faraway lands during Global Adventures. This class also includes topics on various cultures and customs practiced in other countries. Visiting chefs will teach us tricks of the trade, while visiting local markets to shop for our own groceries will also be on the agenda.

VOLUNTEERS CLUbWhat’s better than spending your Sunday afternoon helping others? Volunteer opportunities include the community and at The Center, with activities like visiting with the animals at a local shelter, preparing care packages for our troops overseas, organizing book drives and other activities that benefit the community.

GLASS AND MOSAICS Artists have the opportunity to create works of art using traditional stained glass and mosaic techniques. Elements of drawing and painting will be incorporated into the class as well, encouraging projects to go through several stages before being transformed into glass works.

REAcH

REACH is a year-round day program for adults who work part-time, are unemployed or who want something different from the traditional workshop environment. Members must have graduated from high school or be at least 22 years of age to enroll in the REACH program.

REACH is designed to give members the opportunity to continue to learn, make new friends and succeed in having meaningful experiences during the day. The program is offered five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Members choose the number of days that they wish to attend. We also offer an “extended day” program for those members who would like to start at 9:00 a.m.

REACH members partner with staff in planning activities and classes for each month. Some member’s choices have included fitness activities, social groups, pet therapy, swimming, fishing, horticulture, drama and art.

REACH members can also choose from other classes that members express interest in such as Shop ‘N’ Cook, Janitorial Training, Book Club and learning basic computer skills. REACH offers a Relationship Class taught by a licensed clinical counselor where members are able to discuss issues such as friendships, dating and learning to advocate for themselves.

Illinois Imagines, a sexual assault prevention and education program is also offered. Through a generous grant from Macy's, The Center has been able to enhance and adapt the curriculum to better meet the needs of REACH members.

REACH collaborates with organizations such as Arts of Life, Our Place of New Trier and Keshet where members engage in a variety of activities, including exploring the community, making new friends and reconnecting with old friends. Additionally, REACH

collaborates with NSSED Transition program where students and REACH members take part in a health class and/or girls club.

For those individuals who are interested in gaining work skills, REACH offers vocational skills training. The purpose is to provide training and support in an area of interest which, in the future, may enable the individual to pursue community employment in this field. Job skill areas include, but are not limited to, training in shredding and recycling including collecting, sorting and going out to the recycling center in the community to earn cash for future outings of the participants’ choice.

REACH participants are currently involved in projects at: Lincoln Park Zoo, Starbucks, Horsefeathers Therapeutic Riding Stables, Marriot Hotels, Home Delivered Meals and Catholic Charities Food Pantry, Bernie’s Book Bank and Whitehall of Deerfield.

The Center is committed to working with each individual to find the program that best meets his/her needs. The process is as follows: • CEL Staff and the prospective REACH participant

meet and get to know each other during an initial interview

• Staff and/or veteran REACH members host a tour ofThe Center

• A 30-day assessment period at the start of theprogram enables the participant and the REACH staff to gather the tools they need to develop his/her personal REACH for Success Plan. The plan incorporates the individual’s dreams, desires and interests to establish a course of action to achieve his/her goals. Progress toward the goals will be tracked by the REACH member, with assistance from staff. A quarterly progress report will be shared with key people in the member’s life.

• A primary outcome of the program is for the REACHmember to make progress towards his/her personal goals.

• We require that members make a minimum sixmonth commitment to the program.

If you are interested in learning more about the REACH day program please complete the interest form on page 24. We will contact you to arrange a tour. You can also contact Jean Morrelli at 847.315.9909.
