Group of Studies in Higher Education - GSHECoordinator: Renato H. L. Pedrosa
The GSHE is a permanent CAS group dedicated to research and other activities on regarding Higher Education, focusing on policy issues at the national level as well as on international comparative studies.
Main interests:• Curriculum and academic structure (tradition and innovation)• Institutional diversity (academic, management and financial aspects)• Access policies (equity in access and affirmative action policies)• Quality assurance (assessment of learning outcomes)• Internacionalization (perspectives for the Brazilian research universities)

The GSS is dedicated to research on Sports as a social phenomenon, including its personal and educational perspectives as well.

Group of Brazil-China Studies - GBCSCoordinator: Leila
The GBCS has as its main objective the deep understanding of the role China plays in the contemporary world as a whole, with focus on the Brazil-China interactions.
Main interests:
• To promote the understanding of China in a global comparative perspective
• To foster the academic cooperation between Unicamp and its Chinese counterparts
• To expand Unicamp’s relationships with Brazilian institutions (government or not) that have interactions with China
• To help spread the knowledge and information on China around campus and to incentive the learning of Mandarin among Unicamp’s students.

Group of Contemporary Studies – GCS (in formation)Coordinator: Alcir Pécora
The GCS gathers a group of specialists in the Arts, the Sciences and the Humanities who are interested in the study of the various notions of crisis (in culture, in the humanities, of paradigms, of representation, of criticism, etc.) as a privileged form of debating the challenges, in both historical and theoretical perspectives, facing societies in the 21st Century world.
Main interests and objectives:
• To look for a common vocabulary among the various areas to allow for a proper understanding of the meaning of crisis in the contemporary world
• To use the notion of crisis to question the notion of the coontemporary• To provide subsidies to projects that involve the debate of contemporary issues

Group of Studies in Higher Education – GSHE
What’s coming• Starting with the current issue, Unicamp HEd J. includes the
Portuguese version of Internation Higher Education, originally published by the Center of International Higher Education (Boston College, Philip Altbach)
• In July, the CEAv and the Pro-rectorate ofr Undergraduate Studies will promote the 1st “Zeferino Vaz” School of Higher Education, with the participation of Jamil Salmi (formerly World Bank), Philip Altbach (BC), Phil Baty (THE), Liz Reisberg (BC), Peter Dourmashkin (MIT), Pedro Rosso (Catholic U., Chile), Simon Shwartzman (IEDI/Brazil) and others.
• In November, CEAv will organize a seminar on HE and the emerging economies, with the purpose of debating the contents of a book that will be published by Springer and Unicamp next year, under the editorship of Simon Schwartzman, Romulo Pinheiro and Pundy Pillay.
• Various joint projects, among them: CSHE/Berkeley (SERU), a Master Plan for the University of São Paulo (USP) and, hopefully, with HSE/Moscow.
