Dear Brothers and Sisters: As we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord it is yet another feast during these wonderful days of Christmas. I hope all has been well for you. I am writing this letter one day
before Christmas Eve and I would like to thank all of you for the great work that was done in the parish this year; it has been a true Epiphany, an awakening of how the Spirit of God can work in us.
I am grateful to our wonderful choir and cantors and the younger people who have been singing and serving at the altar, and the older ones who come everyday to serve Mass and to attend it. It was wonderful to see the generosity of so many people in their gifts for the poor, and to see how many Knights of Columbus and others who decorated our church so beautifully again this year, and the parishioner who cleaned the carpet in the church. Also it is wonderful to see the hard work of Diana and the choir in our Christmas concert and for our Sunday Masses. And the ingenuity of Fr. Doss and those who helped him in our manger scene this year, which reminds us to do the same in our own homes. God will not forget those who helped with the training of the Confirmation kids, the many religious education teachers who give of themselves each week, and the many ministers who assist with the liturgy, and those who are making the parish more welcoming to those coming for the first time. Many thanks for the hundreds of people who have been giving generously to our parish these days and always, and to the many cards and presents that were sent here to the rectory. I would like to thank all of you in person, especially those who I have not mentioned by name! Please come to see the Three Kings next week on Sunday at 11 AM; they are running late again! And pray for us and the renewal of our parish!

RIGHT TO LIFE MARCH Thursday, January 22, 2015 will mark the 42nd anniversary of Roe-v-Wade. Once again thousands of people will
gather in Washington D.C. for the “March for Life". We will be
organizing with other parishes to send a bus from here leaving early on
Thursday and returning at night. Call the office if you would like to attend.
EAST RUTHERFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT Dear Nixle User, We would like to
advise residents of a recently passed ordinance instituting restricted
parking on certain roadways during snow fall. Signs will be posted on the affected streets as soon as possible.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Epiphany celebrates the wake‑up calls of life, the showings of God’s majesty and power in the person of Jesus. The feast alerts us to look for signs of the Lord’s grace and action in our lives today. In this context, the call of the Second Vatican Council to reform the sacramental life of the Church, including our pattern of care for the sick, is indeed a holy awakening. Prior to the 1960s, our care for the sick had collapsed in the popular imagination into something everyone called “last rites.” An immensely complicated ritual, with anointing accompanied by quickly muttered Latin prayers, was enacted for a marginally conscious person at “death’s door.” By the time a priest was called, the sick person might not be able to receive viaticum, or derive much personal benefit from the ritual. The healing effects of the sacrament, investing suffering with the dignity of a link to Christ’s cross, and the immense assurance of forgiveness for a person reviewing the life journey, were hidden. Suddenly, an epiphany swept through the Church, and the way we care for the sick was utterly transformed. It took several centuries, however, for the Church to reach that moment of renewal.

PHYSICIAN- ASSISTED SUICIDE In November 2014 The NJ Assembly passed A2270, “Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill”, previously called the “Death
with Dignity Act.” It will now be passed to the state senate. The bill number is S382.
Laws like these are Dangerous! A six month prognosis for the terminally ill can be wildly
inaccurate. In addition, no physician is required to be present when the
patient takes the lethal prescription. Nor is there any requirement to notify a family member. In closing, we
should be supporting improved hospice care state wide, not suicide.

ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY Thanks to all for supporting the wreath sale which was a
success. Also, thanks for the great year we had celebrating our 100th anniversary.
There is no meeting scheduled for January. Our next monthly Communion Sunday, February 1st and the next
meeting will be February 2nd in the cafeteria. Congratulations to our newly elected
President, Lorraine Jolwono. The Rosarians wish all a Blessed Christmas and a healthy,
happy New Year!
FEAST OF THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS On Friday, January 2, 2015, the Mass at 12:05 PM will
celebrate the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.
Although the official date for this feast is January 3,
more parishioners would attend since it is also the First
Friday of the month. Also, all Holy Name members are
encouraged to attend this mass. This feast confirms
our faithful reverence for the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit and venerating the Most Holy Names of
God.
GENEROUS CHRISTMAS DONATIONS Many thanks to our St. Joseph Altar Society who
donated $8,000 this year after many months of hard work! We are very grateful for all
you do for our parish. A generous parishioner donated 350 shares of stock
valued at just over $8,000.
God will repay you many times over.

CATHOLIC CEMETERIES This week the NJ State Senate voted on two
bills -- one authorizing physician-assisted suicide in the State, and the other prohibiting
Catholics from purchasing memorialization from any Archdiocese of Newark cemetery, as
well as from any other Diocesan or Parish cemeteries in the State. The cemeteries bill
also extends this prohibition to every other religiously-affiliated
cemeteries in the State. The Archdiocese of Newark strongly opposes
these bills, and it is critical now that every Catholic be aware of the danger of them.
It is vital that we make our collective voices heard against these efforts to legalize suicide in
New Jersey, and to prohibit the ability of Catholic cemeteries to serve Catholic people in their time of need. The current cemetery law has served the people of New Jersey well for
more than a century. Our enduring commitment to preserving the sanctity and
dignity of human life, and to provide assistance to our Catholic families in need and to ensure
that no Catholic family is turned away must be maintained.
EACH OF US IS A MASTERPIECE OF GOD’S CREATION
The Archdiocesan Respect Life Office and the Pro-Life Commission will host a Pro-Life Mass at noon on January 18, 2015 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge Street,
Newark. January 22, 2015 marks the 42nd anniversary of the legalization of abortion in this country. By attending this special Mass,
those who wish to stand up for life but cannot attend the March for Life in
Washington DC or the rally in Trenton can still show their support and defend those who
