FORMEDThis week we celebrate the feast of St. Joseph and Formed.org has great resources to learn more about this humble saint. In the film Joseph of Nazareth see Joseph being inspired and led by God’s messengers to trust and follow His plan along with beautiful vignettes of many of the other powerful scenes in the life of Christ and the Holy Family.

LENTEN REGULATIONSThe season of Lent began on Ash Wednesday, February 26. Lenten regulations are as follows: Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birth-day are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednes-day, all Fridays in Lent, and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  Those who are bound to this regulation may eat only one full meal.  Two smaller meals are permit-ted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.

LENTEN WEEKDAY SERVICESThe schedule of Masses and confessions during the weekdays of Lent is the same as in Ordinary Time. In addition there will be Stations of the Cross on weekdays at 11:40 am. On the Fri-days of Lent, there will be Stations of the Cross at 5:10 pm, concluding with Benediction. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the Saturdays of Lent following the 8:00 am Mass and concluding with Benediction.

CATHEDRAL PRAYER CHAINNotice to all Cathedral Parishioners. We now have a prayer chain that you may request prayers to be said and pray for the needs of others. Send your prayer requests to Mari at https://cathedralsjworkman.org/prayer-request/.

HOSPITAL VISITSParish priests are always glad to come to administer the sacra-ments at our local hospitals; however, it is vitally important that the patient, if possible, or a family member and/or friends con-tact the Rectory at 782-0322 to let us know a parishioner is hos-pitalized. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing you are hospitalized.

WILLS & ESTATESAs you prayerfully execute your will or do estate planning, please consider keeping the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Work-man in mind. The most common and simplest way to include the parish in your last wishes is to include a bequest in your will or trust.

IN SYMPATHYPlease pray for the repose of the soul of Marie Daley, who died recently, and for the comfort and consolation of her husband, Bob, family, friends and loved ones. May her soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace. Amen.

CORONAVIRUS - CHANGES IN PROTOCOLEffective immediately the following changes are being implemented at the Cathedral to lim-it the spread of the Coronavirus: Suspension of holy water fonts, suspension of the exhange of the sign of peace (hand wave is permissible), suspension of the distribution of the Precious Blood, suspension of the Precious Body being received on the tongue (reception will be in the hand only), and the elimination of priests offer-ing handshakes following Holy Mass.

CATHEDRAL SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEONThe next Cathedral Senior Citizens Luncheon will be on Thursday, March 19, at 11:30 am at Hu Hot Mongolian Grill (3800 Highway 16, Valley View Mall). R.S.V.P. to Karol at 769-1270 to reserve a seat. All are welcome to join us for our monthly luncheon outings.

Donald Cal-loway’s book, Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father, will be dis-tributed. KNIGHTS OF ST. JOSEPHGentlemen, just as a farmer’s fields need to be plowed, disked, harrowed and spring toothed for a bountiful harvest, so too, do our spiritual lives require this fine attention, before plant-ing wholesome seeds to realize an overflowing yield. Each and every day should be a day of conscientiously cultivating proper attitudes, be-haviours, habits and virtues, which mirror those of God. However, Holy Mother Church in Her prudence and wisdom sets aside these 40 days of Lent, leading up to Easter, to really get seri-ous and get down to the nitty gritty, as it were, of eradicating those uncomely attributes and all of our sins which separate us from God. Just as we are told in Sacred Scripture, (Isaiah 55:6-7). Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

MASS INTENTIONSMass intentions are readily available in the 2020 calendar year. If you would like to have a Mass offered for a loved one, living or deceased, or for a special intention, please contact the Rec-tory Office to schedule your Mass intentions.

With First Communion, Confirmation and Grad-uation around the corner, this may be a great time to have a Mass offered for these individu-als as they celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation and their academic achievements.

EUCHRE NIGHT - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25Like to play Euchre, want to learn how? Cathe-dral Parish is hosting a Euchre night where you will meet new people, improve your skill and have some fun. Open to all players. No need to bring a partner - we will match you up. If you haven’t played before, come and learn; you’ll get hooked! Cathedral Gathering Space. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Cards start as tables fill up.

UNPLANNEDYou are invited to watch the powerfully prolife film “Unplanned”. This film is based off the true story of Abby Johnson, a woman who formerly was advancing her career rapidly at Planned Parenthood and is now one of the countries leading prolife activists. Come see her amazing transformation and the true power of prayer. The film will be shown on Saturday, March 28th, at 5:30pm at St. Leo’s Parish Hall, 210 West Ham-lin Street, West Salem. Free will donations will be given to prolife Wisconsin. The film is rated R but is appropriate for roughly high school age and up. Any questions, please contact Brook White, 799-3424.

SACRAMENTS & SERVICES

Our high school students in the Diocese have been telling us through surveys and interviews over the last several years that they want to know how God guides them in everyday life. This is radically important for them, and for each one of us. It is essential to know that God truly desires to lead us. We can be sure of this because God has revealed to us in the Scriptures that He will guide us in all things. Here are some Bible passages that point to this fact: • “He guides me in right paths for His name’s sake” (Psalm 23: 3). • ”I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should

go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8).

• ”Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths known”

(Proverbs 3:5-6). • ”If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). • “And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you

will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9).

God offers us guidance in different ways. However, there is something that is foundational to our receiving it. The key is our relationship with God – knowing the Guide Himself. Each of us must come to understand, through a special grace given by God, that we are loved deeply and uniquely by Him. Saint John says: “We love because God first loved

How God Guides UsRelationship comes first!

us” (1 John 4:19). Whether we were blessed to realize this early in life, or whether we come to understand it later on, it profoundly affects a person to realize that I’m in this world because I’m loved – that I’ve been known and loved from all eternity – that I’ve been given life at a certain time, in a certain place and within a certain set of circumstances. I’ve also been given the choice to follow the Lord or reject Him.

In order to receive this grace of a deeper experience of God’s personal love, we need to ask for it. Our Lord will answer this prayer, and we need never stop asking for more of it - for more of Him. When we know the truth of how much God loves us and that He wants to guide us, every-thing changes: we become more peaceful, confident and trusting. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we become more aware of His guidance. And, as we follow His guidance, we will grow deeper in our trust and rela-tionship with Him.

Guidance is a gift from God and our part is to dispose our-selves to receive it. The proper disposition involves being open, available and entails looking for and being ready to receive the gift of guidance when God gives it. God desires what is best for us, even better than what we want for ourselves, or that anyone else wants for us. Based on this trust, we want to make ourselves available to what God desires. Even when this includes a certain amount of difficulty or suffering, God’s guidance is always accom-panied by a peace and joy deep down in our heart. He promised us that everything will work out together for good, in the end. (See Romans 8:28). If you would like to read two modern-day true stories of God’s very real and practi-cal guidance, they can be accessed at diolc.org/deeper, then click on Stories for Bulletin Insert 1.

How does one go about seeking guidance from God? How do we begin to learn to listen for God’s guidance? How can we tell if we’re just “talking to ourselves” or if we’re listen-ing to God? These questions will be answered in a series of bulletin inserts to follow, which will provide specific principles for understanding how God guides us and how to practice making personal application in our everyday life. There is nothing more exciting than knowing that God has a special path for us and that we can come to know the peace and joy that comes in following this adventure with Him!
