PRESERVE AND PROMOTE OUR OWN TRADITIONS WHEN YOU ENTER CHURCH, it is customary to first go to the Tetrapod Table up front, in the middle of church — there we are to make the sign of the cross, bow, and kiss the icon and cross displayed there. We then bow and make the sign of the cross again, and then go to light candles or take our place for Liturgy. In our Ukrainian Greek Catholic Churches, we make the Sign of the Cross (holding together the right thumb, index and middle fingers) starting with our forehead, then to our mid-chest, then to our right shoulder first, then the left shoulder. Also in our churches, we do not genuflect (brief bending of the right knee to-wards the altar) - instead, we make the sign of the cross the Eastern way, and then bow towards the altar. And remember that church is a holy place so try to keep quiet (not to talk or laugh loudly) in the Church before, during, or after the church services. Let’s preserve and promote our own and beautiful traditions.

POSTURE DURING EASTER SEASON During the season of the Pentecost, which extends from Easter to the Descent of the Holy Spirit, as a sign of the joy of the Resur-rection we do not make any bows, nor do we kneel. The Council of Nicea (325) gave us the following rule regarding the matter: “Since there are some who kneel on the day of the Lord and during the season of the Pentecost, for the sake of uniformity in all eparchies, the Council decrees that during that time prayers be offered up to God while standing” (canon 20). A similar decree was issued by the Sixth Ecumenical Council in the 90th rule. Also, the prayer “Heavenly King” is not recited until Pentecost Sunday.

CHILDREN’S DIVINE LITURGY / ДИТЯЧА СВЯТА ЛІТУРГІЯ Our next Children’s Divine Liturgy will be on Sunday, June 4th, 2017, at 9:00am (in Ukrainian) and 11:00am (in English). “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”, says Jesus in St. Matthew’s Gospel (Mt. 19:14). Jesus also says: “Please come to Me all of you…”. May God bless you all as we learn ourselves and teach our children to love God and to serve his Holy Church. So, please come to His Church offering Jesus your generous heart filled with love and dedication. Our Lord Jesus Christ is waiting for YOU. MARRIAGES — ОДРУЖЕННЯ The Sacrament of Marriage requires a time of spiritual preparation. Couples planning to be married are asked to make an appoint-ment with Fr. Roman Pitula to set a date for a wedding and begin preparations (including Pre-Cana) at least six months before the wedding. Тайна Подружжя вимагає певного духовного приготування. * * * ASK THE PASTOR Questions and Answers about the Divine Liturgy (cont’d):

What is the Holy Antimension? The Holy Antimension is one of the most important Liturgical objects that is not missing in any Catholic Church. It is given to the priest by the local Bishop and is the sign of his canonical status. The Holy Antimension is a rectangular piece of cloth made out of linen or silk approximately 15-20″ wide. It is painted with scenes from the Passions of our Savior, the main theme being the entombment of Jesus Christ. During the Liturgy the Holy Antimension represents the entomb-ment of Jesus Christ and also the shroud in which He was wrapped. In one of the corners or in the middle of Holy Anti-mension generally we find Holy relics of the saints. This is a continuation of the ancient Christian custom of building Churches on the tombs of the Martyrs. Priest cannot serve the Divine Liturgy without this liturgical object. In the Church it is kept on the Holy Table under the Gospel.

A THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look be-yond the imperfections.

HUMOR... DOMINATED MEN God looks over the millions of people and says 'Welcome to Heaven. I want the women to go with Saint Peter, and the men to form two lines. Make one line of the men that dominated their women on earth, and the other of men who were dominated by their women.' There’s much movement, but eventually the women are gone and there are two lines. The line of the men that were dominated is 100 miles long. The line of men that dominated women has only one man. God gets angry and says, “You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created you in my image and you were all dominated by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons that stood up and made me proud. Learn from him!” He turns to the man and says, “Tell them, my son. How did you manage to be the only one on that line?” The man says, “I don’t know, my wife told me to stand here.'“ СМІЄМОСЬ РАЗОМ... У ЖИТТІ НЕ БУВАЄ ВИПАДКОВОСТЕЙ Лікар Марк, був відомим фахівцем в області онкології. Одного разу він збирався на дуже важливу конференцію в інше місто, де його повинні були нагородити премією в галузі медичних досліджень. Він дуже хвилювався, тому що на цій конференції повинні були оцінити його багаторічні труди. Однак, через дві години після того, як злетів літак, сталася аварійна посадка в найближчому аеропорту через технічну неполадку. Доктор боявся не встигнути, тому орендував машину і поїхав сам в місто, де мала проходити конференція. Однак, незабаром після того, як він виїхав, зіпсувалася погода і почався сильний шторм. Через сильний дощ він не туди завернув і заблукав. Після двох годин безрезультатної їзди він зрозумів, що пропав. Він відчував себе голодним і жахливо стомленим, тому вирішив пошукати, де б зупинитися. Через деякий час, він, нарешті, натрапив на маленький старий будинок. Зневірившись, він вийшов з машини і постукав у двері. Двері відчинила красива жінка. Він пояснив їй усе і попросив скористатися її телефоном. Однак, жінка сказала, що у неї нема телефону, але він може зайти і почекати, поки погода не покращиться. Голодний, мокрий і втомлений лікар прийняв її люб'язну пропозицію і увійшов. Дама подала йому їжу і гарячий чай та сказала, що він може приєднатися до її молитви. Але, лікар посміхнувся і сказав, що він вірить тільки в працьовитість, і відмовився. Сидячи за столом і попиваючи чай, лікар спостерігав за жінкою в тьмяному світлі свічок, як вона молилася поруч з дитячим ліжечком. Лікар розумів, що жінка потребує допомоги, тому, коли вона закінчила молитву, запитав її, чого саме вона хоче від Бога і невже вона думає, що Бог колись почує її благання. Потім він запитав про маленьку дитину в ліжечку, біля якої вона молилася. Жінка сумно посміхнулася і сказала, що дитина в ліжечку - це її син, який страждає від рідкісної форми раку. І тільки один лікар може вилікувати його, але у неї немає грошей, щоб дозволити собі це, і крім того, той лікар живе в іншому місті. Вона сказала, що Бог досі не відповів на її молитву, але вона знає, що Він допоможе їй і ніщо не зламає її віру. Збентежений лікар втратив дар мови і просто розплакався. Він пригадав все, що з ним сьогодні трапилося: несправність літака, проливний дощ, через який він збився зі шляху... І все це сталося через те, що Бог не просто відповідав на молитву жінки-матері, а давав і йому шанс вийти з матеріального світу і допомогти бідним людям, у яких немає нічого, крім молитви. Завжди будьте готові зробити те, що Бог приготував для вас. Не буває випадковостей у житті.

sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and help-less?" "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you? God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

"You will simply call her, 'Mom.'"
