What a great start to 2019: a rocking New Year’s Eve party, two full-houses for the football playoff Sundays (many boos and gnashing of teeth when the Saints lost!) and a beautiful Commodore’ Ball. Many thanks to the crew that put the Ball together: Shelda Jones, Sandy Pace, Julie Noble, Bo Clarke, Elvis and Melissa Gates, Mark Oehmichen and Freddy Walsh. As usual, the crew creates a beautiful setting for this annual event which recognizes the new Commodore, honors the out-going Commodore and the board and com-mittee members who have worked so diligently for the club.
Among the many awards presented were :
Fred Welch Jr.… Yachtsman of the Year Ricky Welch ...Jr. Sailor of the Year
Julie Noble… Howard and Sallie Kapp Service Award and…a special award: Doc Rayner for attendance at Thursday night dinners
Tom Stokes, Ed Keefer and I attended the Gulf Yachting Association winter meeting in Fairhope; races were scheduled for the season and some rules modified. BIG NEWS! The new pool is becoming a reality; papers were signed and pool ordered. Many accolades to Patrick, Elvis and Martin who have given so much time and thought to this process! We are hoping for an early Spring grand opening of Long Beach’s new fun spot by the water. Please check the club calendar for events planned for the next few months. Thanks to Angie Johnson and her Entertainment committee for their hard work and imagination in parties and events at our wonderful club. As I have said, this is the friendliest club on the coast, and I am so proud to be a part of this group. Join us at LBYC for the Thursday night cook-your-own and all the other good times. Support our yacht club.
Welcome Winter! Hope you all are staying warm and those of you who love cold weather are enjoying our taste of this southern winter. First, I would like to express my heartfelt thank you for being awarded the Howard and Sallie Kapp Service Award for 2018. There are many people who do so much for our club – what we see being done and what is done behind the scenes. Knowing Howard and Sallie for so many years and witnessing their never ending help, dedication and support to Long Beach Yacht Club makes me feel even more honored to receive this award. Thank you again. Our 37th Annual Commodore’s Ball was held January 26th. The club was beautifully decorated, we enjoyed wonder-ful food and great entertainment by Eddie McDaniels. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a suc-cess. Welcome Commodore Pam Rice, the 2019 Flag Officers, Board Members & Committee Chairpersons. Would like to remind everyone that we continue to enjoy our Thursday night Grill Your Own with great sides pre-pared by our Chef Daniel and desserts by Sandy Pace for a very affordable price. We’ll have a special Grill Your Own on Valentine’s Day including entertainment by Kelsey Moran so come enjoy! Also, Sandy Pace continues to prepare delicious, low cost Friday night dinners – thank you Sandy! Next month is going to be busy so please check the calendar and newsletter for what’s going on in February and all upcoming events. Also, look for flyers & reminders that might be on our website, sent to you via email or text, or on the tables at the club, and, as always, see you at your club! Our Drink Of The Month Is: Mardi Gras Martini

The New Year started out nicely for our Club members. All names randomly drawn for that $50 bar tab were winners. They were Julie Noble, Bo Clarke, Marguerite Hess and Mark Oemichen. Four happy members in just four weeks! Perhaps yours could be the next name drawn on Friday even-ing. Just come to the Club, purchase a refreshing adult beverage or a delicious light meal and you could get your name in print right here.
A Matter of Perspective...

We are off to a great start this year with the addition of 3 new members. Please take time to make these folks feel welcome in our yacht club family. New members are: Cody Heath, Michael Butcher, and Patricia Marsh. We also have a new member application for consideration: Adelbert and Jill Wilbur
2600 Old Bay Rd. Apt 18 Biloxi Ms. 39513
Just a reminder that it is time to pay those annual membership dues, the payment structure options are as follows:
Regular members: $660/yr or $55/mo, Non resident members: $330/yr or $27.50 mo, Intermediate members: $330/yr or $27.50/mo, Military members: $495/yr or $41.25/mo, Jr. members: $35.00 annually
Note, there is a correction to the non-resident monthly amount. I should have my eyes tested or get larger buttons to press on my computer! We have also begun the pool assessment fee of $10/mo and progress is being made towards the construction of our new pool! As always, I look forward to seeing everyone at the club!
