September and once again the Trust are inviting people to take part, as a sponsored cyclistor walker, to raise funds to support its work helping with the repair of the county’s churchesand chapels.

Proceeds are divided equally between the Church chosen by the rider/walker and theSuffolk Historic Churches Trust.

Great Bradley Church has called upon the Trust for financial assistance in the past and this event is anopportunity to help ensure that it will still be there in the future when we are likely to need such aid again.

Thurlow WIThurlow WI and friends visited the Chocolate Shop at Steeple Bumpstead for the Augustmeeting. We were shown how to create and mould figures by Julie, who also had many tales totell keeping us amused.

We will be back in the Village Hall on the 13th of September to hear and see Meg Brownes Patchwork Quilts.

Before that we will concentrate on the Fayre to be held on the 4 th of the month, baking cakes, we would begrateful if anyone else could support us as we need more cakes than we can provide.

During July we sent a team to the Federation Quiz at Clare and five members enjoyed a tour and heard thehistory of the Theatre at Bury St. Edmunds organised by our treasurer Karen Canterford.

Warm regards, Iris

Thurlow Farmers’ Market – Important UpdateWith sadness we write to tell you that trade at our Farmers’ Markets has not ‘picked up’ as we had hoped itwould. Stall holders have become increasingly anxious about the low ‘footfall’ so we have decided that we willnot be holding any more markets. We should like to thank all our supporters and stall holders for theirattendance and apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. We have enjoyed running the markets and willbe looking for other events to replace them in the future.

Great Bradley Fete 2016

Another successful fete at Great Bradley - the weather was kind to us and around 200 visitors spent theafternoon strolling around the beautiful grounds of Great Bradley Hall, looking at the various stalls and activitieson offer or enjoying a cream tea accompanied by the harmonious strains of the Hadstock Silver Band. It was agreat opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbours and to welcome some of the new arrivals in the village.

So many people contributed to the event: buyers and sellers, cake-bakers and barbecue chefs, tea-brewers andservers, programme-sellers and advertisers, our junior helpers Hannah and Ilana, flower-arrangers and artists, ponies Buster and Ben, setter-uppers and clearing-awayers. Not to mention our sponsors, Great Bradley FarmCo and Warburton’s, and Waitrose, who saved the day with a last-minute delivery of bread rolls. And of coursethe Ryder family, who once again opened their garden to the village – a fete on the Clarendale or the RecreationGround just wouldn’t be the same!

A massive thank you from the Fete team and St Mary’s PCC to everyone who was involved in the fete in anyway – we raised over £2,500 for church funds and charity and had a lovely afternoon into the bargain – a brilliantresult!

Sue Ireland, St Mary’s PCC

Harvest festival - Sunday 11 September As the landscape gradually changes from gold to brown, combiners in thefields and trucks of grain trundling out of the village all mean that harvest

time is upon us. We will celebrate this majorstage in the village year at the Harvest Festivalservice at St Mary’s on 11 September at 11am.All are welcome to come and join in some rousingharvest hymns followed by coffee and cake. Wewill also be collecting donations of cans andpackets for the Haverhill food bank at thatservice.

Charity Corner

Pants to PovertyThe Ellesmere Centre, Stetchworth have kindly placed a collection box in their foyer for thecharity www.smallsforall.org.

This charity collects preloved bras still in good condition and packs of NEW pants. They arecurrently in particular need of pants. These are then distributed to schools in Africa, enabling many girls toattend school regularly with dignity.

This simple and direct solution was the idea of Maria McNamara. As this young home based charity grows theyare also now able to support girls through long term education.

Please contribute if you can and check out the work at www.smallsforall.org
