Village: Úľany nad Žitavou/Černík

Many wine fans think of the Nitra wine region as a producer of simple wines. The times are changing however and recently a small and non-traditional wine-maker

from a picturesque village Úľany nad Žitavou burst onto the scene. We are referring to the Žitavské vinice (Žitava vineyards) winery and their exceptional wines reflecting

the region’s terroir. The winery’s “weapon of choice” is the production of naturally sweet wines, which belong among the best. During the past two years the winery has

also been increasingly focusing on a limited production of dry wines, which excel with their noblesse and longevity. To open a bottle of wine from the Žitavské vinice is not

only a perfect complement to your food but also a symphony for your senses.

Mužla

Village: Mužla

Although the Château Belá winery and the Château Belá hotel are two distinct companies, the winery is located in a castle building and complementing its

splendour. The reason is that the castle comprises also extensive cellars, owned by the Ullmann family during the First republic period. The Winery oenologist Miroslav

Petrech is constantly very busy, so it’s almost impossible to meet him having a rest. The grapes and the wine have been part of his life for the past forty years and the company rivel Mužla (where he is a part-owner) owns around eighty hectares of

vineyards around Belá. To produce the best riesling he uses the best clones of this prime German variety. Treat yourself to a bottle of this wine and enjoy the delight

bestowed upon this wine by Château Belá fans from Tokyo through Paris to New york.

Today there are very few Slovak winemakers, who are successful and sought after also abroad. One of them is also a small producer from Mužla and an exceptional man Bott Frigyes. Frigyes tohether with his wife Susan love tradition and good wine. Therefore

more than ten years ago they decided to establish their own winery in their own family house and to produce all wines maturing in their own casks and from their own vineyards. They produce traditional varieties, grown in the south of Slovakia for more than 100 years. The uniqueness of Bott Frigyes’s wines makes them much appreciated

offering by Michelin restaurants in Budapest, where they have a firm place on wine cards.

A small winery producing around 9,000 litres annually was established in 2009 and focusing on production of quality wines with Prädikat and character. Main grape varieties grown are the traditional Welsh riesling, Fetasca regala or Pinot Noir. The winery’s philosophy is to maximise the potential of grapes harvested in the

vineyards around Tekov. Let the nature and the time speak, since to be a witness of the process is much more than to be the imaginary director.

The casks are stored in rented premises of the parish cellars in the centre of Pezinok. Pavelka’s claim to fame is to be the first in Slovakia to produce
