2. She was the Goddess of love, passionand beauty in the ancient world. She was married to god Hephaestosbut she had an affair with Ares(Mars) the handsome god of war andthey had three children. She was the mother of Eros (Cupid),the winged god of love 3. In the Homeric 'Iliad, Aphrodite iscalled the Cyprian or Cytherea. The Romans called her Venus. Greek sculptors made many figures ofher. The most famous statue of Aphroditetoday, is the beautiful 'Venus de Milo',now in the Louvre in Paris. 4. The famousarmless statuecalled Venus de Milo. 5. According to the Greek mythology, Cyprus isthe birth place of the goddess Aphrodite. Gaia (Mother Earth) asked one of her sons,Cronus, to mutilate his father, Uranus (Sky).Cronus cut off Uranus' testicles and threwthem into the sea. A white foam appearedfrom which a maiden arose, the waves firsttook her to Kythera and then brought herto Cyprus. 6.
