The Bike Shop

Work Horse

This car is used for the mobile service provided by this bike shop. Having the proper vehicle is very important for this business because you don’t want something too big or too small enough. A sedan gets the job done. You are able park in tight spots or even in people driveways.

The Rack

This is a Thule roof rack. This is where the bikes are put when they are either being picked up from or delivered to the customer. It is important to have a sturdy roof rack because some times you carry bikes that are very heavy due to the material the bike is made of. The only downside of this type of rack is that you need to have a strong lower back in order to lift the bike over your head and place it on top of the car.

Trunk Space

The trunk of this car is used to transport all tools needed for the service. It is nice to have a spacious trunk in order to fit all sorts of tools such as the bike stand in the picture. All parts and tools get placed in the trunk, it is more convenient that way.

The Storage

Looks like an ordinary storage. Maybe a place to keep random home accessories.

The Tools

These are all the tools needed for any bicycle service. It is important to have the proper equipment when working on expensive bicycles, sometimes its not about how good you can do the job its about how you present your self during the job.

Random Parts

Some times it pays off hording and keeping random parts from customer bicycles. These parts are collected left over's or parts that wont be needed on that bike. There also some other tools in here. These two organizers include: bearings of all sizes, washers, nuts, bolts , frame parts and etc.

Parts

Some inventory: tubes, seat, chains , break pads, tires.

It is important to have some sort of inventory or at least have the most common parts, so that you wont have to waste time ordering and waiting for parts to come in. ( Time is money)

Need an Apron?

It is important when working to stay clean and organized. Using an apron is very convenient because you can place tools in the pouches provided instead of all over the place, second when working you wont have to worry about grease or any gunk getting on your clothes.

And one more plus is it makes you look more professional.

The Money Maker

This is a Park tool bike stand. This is where you mount the bike so you can work on it. It is one of the most important parts of a bike shop, because this is how you are able to service bikes. It is very crucial to have a proper bike stand. There are a verity of companies that make bike stands, but I prefer Park because it is made in the USA, and is of good quality also very stable.

Although its a bit pricy its worth every penny.

Got Info?

Having a commuter in a shop it very convenient. If you need any sort of information about how to do a service on a bike it’s a click away. A computer also makes ordering parts less of a hassle. Before you would have to call the company to order parts and it would take at least 45 min., but on a computer it takes 2 min.

The Invoice

I personally like to write the invoice in the beginning because you let the customer know how much, and what exactly will be done to the bike. The note pad is to write down what needs to be done on the bike during the inspection.( these are my personal notes) later I have another brake down for the customer. The receipt is given at the end when the job is complete. There is a break down of parts used and labor provided.
