"Well of the morning the kids tend to have toast cause they won’t eat cereal and then they have school dinners most days and then when they come home it tends to be McDonalds."

"We would have a banana once a week."

"It’s just cheaper to buy bad food."

"When you’re on benefits and you are a single parent, it definitely affects what you can afford to buy and what you can’t afford, especially with the lads who only eat 1 thing. So if I only have a £5 I’ve got to buy chicken nuggets and then I might have to make my daughter chicken nuggets as well, because I can only afford to buy 1 thing."

"It’s more cheaper for the unhealthy food, like the food you can pick up like a bag of, like anything."

Conclusion

• If you build it, they will come.

• No point pushing health messages if the environment makes it unattainable.

• Assume nothing, listen and learn first.

• The issue is complex. The solutions are not linear. Neither are people.
