We are so glad you’ve chosen to worship with us this week! Hearing assistance devices are available for the Sanctuary. Please see an usher to obtain these aids. Enjoy fellowship, coffee, and snacks in the Family Life

Center Gym between worship services.

Our Vision Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries

through worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our Mission REACH, TEACH, and SEND

We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal

life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Worship Services Break Free

Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00pm in the Family Life Center. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory.

Traditions

At 8:00 and 11:00am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service.

Connect

At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Freedom

At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Welcome to Shalimar UMC

Philip’s Focus

What We Need to Know As We Approach June 2

Worship is the “tip of the sword” of making disciples on our campus. The master plan is not focused on increasing our worship capacity but rather adding to the quality of worship space and experience. This will make us more relevant and will enhance the overall worship experience by the following: Again…a highly visible and centrally located front door for all

worshippers to enter. The quality of our worship experience in the traditional sanctuary will

be enhanced by the new direction of the sanctuary which will allow for fellowship in the new lobby, closer access to large restrooms, larger chancel area, lighting improvement, and acoustic upgrades.

The large new gathering area will encourage fellowship among all

worshippers. The larger chancel area will add space for our worship ministry

(orchestra, chancel choir, sacraments, and preaching). As we prepare to grow our Sanctuary services, our current chancel area is maxed out. We are stepping on top of each other with a growing orchestra, large chancel choir, music teams, preparations for the sacraments of Holy Communion, preparing funerals, and the preaching space needed each week.

There is also an access problem in our current chancel area. Choir

members stop singing in the choir because of mobility issues so the new chancel will allow more space and easier access.

In reversing the direction of the sanctuary, the problem of the glare

will be alleviated by facing the Ascension stain glassed window of Jesus.

The Family Life Center worship space will also be enhanced with lighting and sound upgrades. Plans also call for new seating which will enhance the contemporary setting. Also, the new atrium/lobby will be a central gathering area everyone on campus and will be just steps away from the worship and family life center. As the fellowship area will be moved to the new lobby, that space will be freed up for additional seating capacity. This increase in seating capacity will be available in the future for both future growth and for larger church and community events.

Shalom, Philip

Our Faith in Action Church Work Day on April 28th continues to bring in notes of appreciation from various relief agencies that we were able to help to include Fresh Start Homes, One Hopeful Place, Safe Connections and more. A number of Sunday school classes and groups took on projects that were a great bonding

experience for the team!

Blessings for Children is an SUMC mission outreach to community families with children ages newborn through fifth grades . We have been operating since January 2019 out of the #10 2nd Street home behind the church, and we are open every Wednesday from noon to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will share God’s love and serve His children by providing clothing, personal care items, and school supplies. So far May has brought the opportunity to bless 19 more children. Since opening in January we have served over 50 children and due to your support, we’ve shared diapers, socks, school supplies,

underwear, t-shirts, toilet paper, dental supplies, shampoo, soap, and the list goes on! This Sunday, and every third Sunday of the month, you can bless the ministry and children by dropping of any of these items in the narthex or Family Life Center lobby (a complete list of items can be found at sumc.io/blessings). We are happy to shop for the items for you if you would rather make a financial donation to the church (designate it for Blessings for Children). Through this ministry we are making a difference to these children and their families as we share God’s love, pray with them, invite them to participate in our church’s activities and provide real and needed help. Your prayers, your donations, and your gifts, are so appreciated, and we invite you to please stop by on Wednesday afternoons to see what God is doing through this ministry that you support! We would also welcome you as a volunteer!
