Lord God, heavenly King,

O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God,

Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us;

you take away the sins of the world,

receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Reading 1 IS 55:6-9

Seek the LORD while he may be found,

call him while he is near.

Let the scoundrel forsake his way,

and the wicked his thoughts;

let him turn to the LORD for mercy;

to our God, who is generous in forgiving.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.

As high as the heavens are above the earth,

so high are my ways above your ways

and my thoughts above your thoughts.

Responsorial Psalm PS 145:2-3, 8-9, 17-18

R. The Lord is near to all who call on him.

I will bless you day after day,

And praise your name forever and ever.

The LORD is great and highly to be praised;

His greatness cannot be measured.

R. The Lord is near to all who call on him.

The LORD is kind and full of compassion,

Slow to anger, abounding in mercy.

How good is the LORD to all,

Compassionate to all his creatures.

R. The Lord is near to all who call on him.

The LORD is just in all his ways

and holy in all his deeds.

The LORD is close to all who call him,

(Continued from page 1)

Who call on him in truth.

R. The Lord is near to all who call on him.

Reading 2 PHIL1:20C-24, 27A

Brothers and sisters:

Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by

life or by death.

For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.

If I go on living in the flesh,

that means fruitful labor for me.

And I do not know which I shall choose.

I am caught between the two.

I long to depart this life and be with Christ,

for that is far better.

Yet that I remain in the flesh

is more necessary for your benefit.

Only, conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the

gospel of Christ.

Gospel MT 20:1-16A

Jesus told his disciples this parable:

“The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner

who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his

vineyard.

After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage,

he sent them into his vineyard.

Going out about nine o’clock,

the landowner saw others standing idle in the

marketplace,

and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard,

and I will give you what is just.’

So they went off.

And he went out again around noon,

and around three o’clock, and did likewise.

Going out about five o’clock,

the landowner found others standing around, and

said to them,

‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’

They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’

He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’

When it was evening the owner of the vineyard

said to his foreman,

‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay,

beginning with the last and ending with the first.’

When those who had started about five o’clock

came,

each received the usual daily wage.

So when the first came, they thought that they

would receive more,

but each of them also got the usual wage.

And on receiving it they grumbled against the

landowner, saying,

‘These last ones worked only one hour,

and you have made them equal to us,

who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’

He said to one of them in reply,

‘My friend, I am not cheating you.

Did you not agree with me for the usual daily

wage?

Take what is yours and go.

What if I wish to give this last one the same as

you?

Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own

money?

Are you envious because I am generous?’

Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

NICENE CREED

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the

Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin

Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of

life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and

(Continued from page 2)

glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

An Invocation to Saint Michael, the Archangel

In the name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and

through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart

of Mary, we kneel humbly before your majesty, O

God Almighty, and implore you to send us Saint

Michael that he may rescue us in our adversity.

Saint Michael, prince of the heavenly host, come to

us! We call out to you with all our hearts! We

place ourselves and our communities, our families

and our parishes, our country, and the entire

world under your very special protection.

May God create Saints among us! May He send us

many priests! And through them, O saintly

archangel, bring about the triumph of the Church

in the battle that is waged against the demons of

hell.

By virtue of the Holy Spirit, establish the reign of

Christ in our country and in the entire world, so

that peace may be secured forever. Amen.

BigNews…. By Fr. Douglas Bignall

[Drawn from Connections]

Twenty-Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Scripture Connection

The parable of the generous vineyard owner (which appears only in Matthew’s Gospel) is the

first of several parables and exhortations challenging the Pharisees and scribes and those who

criticized Jesus for preaching to tax collectors and sinners.

Jesus makes two points in this parable:

First, the parable speaks of the primacy of compassion and mercy in the kingdom of God. The

employer (God) responds to those who have worked all day that he has been just in paying

them the agreed-upon wage; they have no grievance if he chooses to be generous to

others. God's goodness and mercy transcends the narrow and limited laws and logic of human

justice; it is not the amount of service given but the attitude of love and generosity behind that

service.

The parable also illustrates the universality of the new Church. The contracted workers, Israel,

will be joined by the new “migrant workers,” the Gentiles, who will share equally in the joy of

the kingdom of God.

Scripture Reflection

Today’s Gospel strikes at our tendency to judge everything and everyone in terms of how it

affects me. How someone else benefits or is lifted up doesn’t matter — my hurt feelings trump

their joy. Christ calls us to embrace the vision of the generous vineyard owner: to rejoice in the

good fortune of others and their being enabled to realize their dreams, instead of lamenting our

own losses and slights.

We have our scales, yardsticks, actuary tables and market indices to measure what is just and

what is not; but God is generous, loving and forgiving with an extravagance that sometimes

offends our sense of justice and fair play.

Christ calls us to look beyond labels like “tax collector” and “prostitute” and seek out and lift up

the holiness and goodness that reside in every person who is, like each one of us, a child of

God. The parable of the generous vineyard owner invites us to embrace the vision of God that

enables us to welcome everyone to the work of the harvest, to rejoice in God’s blessings to all,

to help one another reap the bounty of God’s vineyard.

Quote to Ponder

Our sins are nothing but a grain of sand alongside the great mountain of

the mercy of God.

We wanted to let our

parishioners know that

housing MCREST guests for

the remainder of 2020 and at

least for the first week of

2021, will look a little different than we are used to.

As we all know, the Coronavirus has caused many,

many changes in our lives and in the lives of the

homeless in our state. Since March, MCREST has

been housing their clients in motels around their

office, located near Little Mack & I94. We recently

have been notified that instead of the guests

traveling from church to church, all 30 women &

children and 30 men will continue to be housed at

the motels through the end of December 2020.

Since St. Hubert’s week was schedule for January 3

9, we have notified MCREST that we will not be

housing the women & children at our Church.

This change, however, will not eliminate our

Christian responsibility to house and feed the

homeless. In fact, I am hoping and counting on your

support to the best of your ability. According to the

information I received, MCREST spends $4,100 per

week for 30 people at the motel. In addition, the

hosting churches are being asked to still provide the

three meals for the day along with bus tickets,

change for laundry, gas cards, and any incidentals

that may arise (as we always have done in the

past.)

I will have more Beacon articles in the future

about how we are going to achieve this. I might

have the MCREST Giving Tree tags for cash

donations only. If you generally purchase supplies

for the week, I may ask for just monetary donations

instead of you having to go out shopping. We would

then have a couple volunteers purchase (from your

donations) all the products our coordinators will

need to pack the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

Logistics are still be worked out as to preparation

and delivery of the meals to the MCREST office.

I am praying that we will have enough support to

be able to provide for all the meals, supplies,

housing for the week, and other expenses. Please

keep checking the Beacon for all updates regarding

our MCREST endeavor. Thank you!

This celebration of the Eucharist reminds Catholic

men and women that they are not merely business

and professional people who happen to be Catholic,

but people who recognize they are stewards of

God’s gifts and their need for the Holy Spirit to be

with them, guiding them every day.
