Praying for Unreached People Groups

114,000 Bosniak in St. Louis, MO- After the Second World War, Bosnia and Herzegovina became one of the six republics of Socialistic Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. When Bosnia declared independence from Yugoslavia, most people who used to declare as Muslims began to declare themselves as Bos-niaks. Once spread throughout the regions they inhabited, various instances of ethnic cleansing and genocide have had a tremendous effect on the territorial distribution of their population. Partially due to this, a notable Bosniak diaspora exists in a number of countries, including Austria, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Turkey and the United States. Both within the region and the outside world. Most Bosniaks are Sunni Muslim, although historically Sufism has also played a significant role among them. For many Bosniaks, Islamic identity has more to do with cultural roots than with religious beliefs. Even among most religious Bos-niaks, there is a disdain for religious leaders exercising any influence over day-to-day life. Bosniaks are no different than other Muslims in that they view Islam from the foundation that is their culture. Today many of the Bosniaks are war refugees in the Western countries. They still speak Bosnian, and maintain a cultural and religious community and visit their mother country regularly. The Bosnians are one of Europe's least evangelized peoples. Although there are missions agencies currently working among the Bosnians of Bosnia-Herzegovina, very few have accepted Christ. Prayer is the key to reaching them with the Gospel.

7 REASONS TO THINK AS A MISSIONARY TO EVANGELIZE NORTH AMERICA

By Chuck Lawless at ChuckLawless.com

I realize that not everyone has a “call” to serve internationally as a missionary, but I do think we must all think as missionaries if we’re going to reach North America. Here are some reasons why: 1. 1. All evangelism is, in some ways, a cross-cultural experience. As believ-

ers, we’re “aliens and strangers” – pilgrims in this world (1 Pet. 2:11). Our worldview is different than the people we’re trying to reach, so we’re mov-ing into a different culture when we connect with non-believers.

2. 2. No longer can we assume that others accept the Bible (if we ever could). It seldom works now simply to say, “Well, the Bible says,” and as-sume that the other person accepts that authority. Some people around us, in fact, might hear the Bible for the first time from us.

3. 3. To reach people, we need to know them. Missionaries intentionally leave their “safe” place to go where the lost are. In too many churches, our pattern is just the opposite: we retreat from the world to protect ourselves from their stains. We’ll never reach people we do not know.

4. 4. Effective evangelism requires our better understanding the worldview of others. I need to know if the person to whom I’m speaking is an atheist . . . or a pluralist . . . or an “ist” of some other world religion. Missionaries understand the importance of learning about their people group as they seek to reach them.

5. 5. Evangelism requires our speaking to people in their language. That’s not to say that we never use biblical terms; it’s simply to say that we have to learn how to speak and explain in ways that non-believers understand. That’s the process of “language” learning that missionaries know so well.

6. 6. God is bringing the nations to us. Just look around. Listen. People from all around the world now live among us. Places of worship of other faiths are dotting our landscape. If God’s bringing people to us, it’s our responsi-bility to learn about them, get to know them, love them, and strive to lead them to Christ. We go to them – like missionaries do – rather than wait for them to come to us.

7. 7. Our task is overwhelming and impossible. We can’t reach people apart from the power of God. Missionaries know this truth, perhaps because they’re often serving in hard soil. We are, too, so we must pray as fervently to reach North America as missionaries pray to reach their people groups around the world.

The Insanity of God is a dramatic documentary that tells the true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken. After the death of their son, this ordi-nary couple journeys into the depths of the persecuted church, asking the question – IS JESUS WORTH IT? How does faith survive, let alone flourish in the places of the world that are overcome with the darkness of sin, despair and hopelessness? Join the Ripkens as they tell the story of being taught by believers in persecution “how to follow Jesus, how to love Jesus, and how to walk with Him day by day even when it doesn’t make sense.” "I encourage you to go to the theater and watch this film. It will change your per-spective on what it means to follow Jesus, and your life will be changed."

— David Platt, President of the International Mission Board

“This movie created a connection to me as a believer that no other movie has. It was challenging, encouraging, and I was moved to tears by the power of God in

his church. ” - Pastor Shawn

Children An Age Appropriate Movie will be shown downstairs in the fellowship hall. Popcorn will be provided.

Youth The month of July was a time for hanging out and fel-lowshipping for the youth. They are less than a month away from the start of their new school year. We had a pool party at the Sutton’s home where 18 students gathered. This was a great time for food, fellowship, games and swimming. We have been going through a video series on Sunday mornings called Awaken. This series is teaching our students how God can wake us up from our spiritual slumber and make us alive to him. We can kill sin and live to Christ when we are awaken. Be praying for our students that they would be awaken to the gospel and share the good news of Jesus so their friends can be alive to Christ as well! Missions Our Salt Lake City team met for their third and final pre-trip meeting this month. We discussed evangelism and learned a new way to tell our testimony in 15 sec-onds! We skyped with our Salt Lake City planter, Bry-an Catherman. It was a great time to hear his passion and vision for Redeeming Life Church. Our team is ea-ger to go and serve this month.

Our London mission team met for the first pre-trip meeting and we skyped with the IMB London city leader. We learned a lot about the city of London, the IMB’s vision and strategy to reach the city.

Be praying for both our Salt Lake team and the Lon-don team this month!
