As some of you know, last summer I went and bought a sailboat. As my wife is prone to motion sickness she thought I
was a complete fool. Since the old saying, “a boat is a hole in the water in which you throw money” seems to be true, she
may not be far off in her assessment of my wisdom.
Buying my first powerboat when I was fifteen, by the time I was in my twenties I was becoming bored with turning the key,
pushing a lever and driving away. Having seen sailboats out on the water I was intrigued by them, so I sold the power
boat and bought a sailboat….and then I had to learn how to sail!
I loved sailing, it is you in tune with nature, trying to harness the wind. No more noisy, smelly motors, just peaceful relax-
ation.
Getting out on the water a couple of times a week is something I look forward to. Trimming the sails and seeing how fast
I can get the boat sailing is rewarding. When the wind gets blowing hard and there are whitecaps it becomes an exhila-
rating ride.
With summer quickly going by, I hope you are getting out and enjoying the outdoor activities that you love to do. Whether
it is golf or hiking the trails nothing can beat being out in nature.

This event is taking place at the “King’s Wharf Theatre” in Penetanguishene on August 22 2017 at 2:00 pm. We should plan on arriving around 1:30 pm to allow enough time for parking and finding our seats before the show be-gins. Since the event starts at 2:00 pm we recom-mend that you arrange for dining either before or after the show at your discretion. May we suggest “Captain Robert’s Table” adjacent to the theater. You might want to call ahead for reservations. (705 – 549 – 0713). Tickets are $42.00 per person. The cutoff date to sign up is July 20 2017.

September 26 2017- Port Severn Fall Lunch Cruise
10:30 am.
Our September event is a 2-1/2 hour lunch cruise
aboard the Serendipity Princess paddleboat. We will ar-
rive at Lock 45 in Port Severn at 10:00 am to board and
prepare to depart at 10:30 am. We will sail on the Trent
Severn Waterway making our way to “The Big Shute Ma-
rine Railway” where we will witness an amazing engineer-
ing feat of boats being hauled to the upper water level on a
railcar. We will also enjoy a hot buffet lunch consisting of
chicken breast, potatoes, vegetable, salads, rolls and de-
sert. Tea and coffee are included. The boat will sail rain or
shine because passengers can enjoy the cruise either
inside or out on the deck. The cost of the cruise is $50.00
per person. The final date to sign up is Sept 20. If you
have any questions or concerns please contact Lee at 705
429 5541 or [email protected].
October 17, 2017 Kickin’ Back Alpaca Ranch Tour 11:00 am
Our October event will be a tour of “The Kickin’ Back Alpaca Ranch” located at 734762 West Back Line, RR No. 7 Markdale Ont. This is a very hands-on adventure where you can walk with the Alpacas as they are halter trained. Towards the end of the tour there is a fully stock store featuring a large variety of Alpaca wool clothing and household items. The tour will start at 11:00 am, so we need to gather a few minutes before it begins.
The cost of the tour is $5.00 per person.
We will gather for lunch at “Steven’s Bar-BQ Restaurant”, located on Highway ten (10) just east of Markdale at approximately 12:30 pm. There will be directions and a map provided on the back of the event flyer at the Social Table. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Lee at 705 429 5541 or email at [email protected].
Guest Speakers, Nathan Wukasch & Jackie Beaudin, were introduced by John McCartney, to talk about the Town’s Age Friendly Community Project. Wasaga Beach is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. According to data from the 2016 Census, Wasaga Beach now has a population of 20,675. This is an increase of 17.9% since 2011. Much of the growth can be attributed to a wave of seniors choosing to retire in the community. The number of mature adults settling in Wasaga Beach grew by 36.3% between 2006 and 2011. This influx has resulted in a median age of 52 in the community.
The Town of Wasaga Beach recognizes the importance of addressing the special needs of this demographic. In 2015 Council initiated an Age-Friendly Community Plan. Results of the Plan’s needs assessment indicate that there are gaps in the municipality’s services. The plan outlines 18 goals that address priorities related to: infra-structure, housing, service and support, health care, leadership and engagement.
Based on the recommendations of the Age-Friendly Community plan, development and implantation of these goals was tasked to an Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee which operates as a Standing Advi-sory Committee of Town Council.
The AFC Advisory Committee is reflective of the resi-dents of Wasaga Beach, with particular inclusion of the seniors demographic and those that represent the inter-est of seniors in the community.
The AFC Advisory Committee is tasked with determin-ing how best to implement the goals of the plan. This includes developing a communication plan between Town Council, the committee and community residents. The committee will also be establishing action plans to best execute the goals of the plan.
