COURSE DESCRIPTION CHEMISTRY (Credit 5.00) Chemistry is a laboratory-oriented course designed to enable all students to acquire an understanding of how chemical theory is developed and how a chemist thinks and works. Students investigate the composition, properties and reactions of matter. The approach is inductive and mathematical, as well as conceptual. Students will be taught that chemistry is an integral part of society and is therefore relevant to their lives. Laboratory experiments and demonstrations will be used to reinforce fundamental concepts. The nature of energy of matter and energy is essential to an understanding of the physical universe. This will lead students from their experiences with the states and properties of matter to the development of models of the atom and the underlying principles of chemistry. COURSE PROFICIENCIES OBJECTIVES REQUIRED: Teaching Methods: Course Requirements: Calculators are needed during instruction and assessment. Students will write laboratory reports.
