Invites you to the 21 st Annual National Congress Dates: 06 to 10 July 29 June – 3 July 2015 Venue: University of Limpopo Limpopo Province Mathematics is often, if not always, used as a measure of quality of our education system. Whenever the wave of celebrating or decrying the matric passes or failures at the end of each year has passed on, the focus is often redirected at the quality of passes. Academics and commentators deliberate on the quality of passes announced with mathematics often on the spotlight The introduction of the Annual National Assessments (ANAs) has also added further measure of scrutiny on the quality of mathematics in schools. The debate is no longer on the quality of matric results only but of the system as a whole. From time to time international and regional tests are undertaken leading to a sustained questioning of the quality of mathematics instruction and learning in schools. In this 21 st Annual Congress, AMESA takes stalk and reflect on strategies that can be used to address the issues of quality in mathematics teaching and learning. How are our mathematics teachers trained? What mathematics is taught in our schools? What kinds of learner support materials are being used to assist our teachers? What kinds of continuing professional development programmes are being offered to the practicing teachers? These are some of the questions that this Congress will be addressing. Come and be part of this historical moment! The Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa
