In partnership with the Washington, D.C., chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the 2015 scholarship will be awarded to students in architecture. Students are invited to submit work that investigates and proposes a solution to issues related to our built environment. Entries may cover projects in any area of architectural design and practice. The competitionThe Arts Club of Washington sponsors an annual scholarship competition to recognize promising students specializing in a specific art form or medium.

In partnership with the Washington, D.C., chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the 2015 scholarship will be awarded to students in architecture.

Students are invited to submit work that investigates and proposes a solution to issues related to our built environment.

Entries may cover projects in any area of architectural design and practice.

EligibilityThe competition is open to college students in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia who are at least 18 years of age, but have not reached their 27th birthday by January 1, 2015.

Entry materialsStudents submit a high-resolution (300 dpi) pdf containing up to five 8.5 x 11 pages of narrative, drawings, sketches, and/or photos (including images of models, if available) that fully describe the project.

An additional one-page project statement of up to 250 words should also be included in the pdf.

The project narrative and accompanying statement should address issues such as program and purpose; circulation or path; structural logic; material language; context and spatial enclosure; and sequence.

This material is submitted in triplicate, on three individual CDs or USB flash drives. Each CD or drive should be clearly labeled with the entrant’s name.

In addition, entries must include

n an official entry form;

n a brief letter of recommendation on school letterhead from a professor in the student’s field from the school where the student is enrolled; and

n a photocopy of the student’s ID.

Deadline Entries must be received by Monday, March 9, 2015.

JudgingA panel of judges not affiliated with the Arts Club will select the winners. Winners will be notified no later than April 20.

Award recipients are invited to attend an award presentation at the Arts Club on Friday evening, May 8.

Display of winning entriesA display of winning entries will be on view for one month each at the Arts Club and the Washington, D.C., chapter headquarters of the American Institute of Architects.

Award recipients will be encouraged to supply any three-dimensional models to be included as part of the display, and may be asked to provide high-resolution files of individual images included in the submission materials.
