CONDITIONS AND RULES GENERAL

1. The Committee reserves the right to refuse an entry.

2. No horse may run more than once in a class.

3. There is no age restriction for children; entry is at the discretion of parents/guardians.

4. All classes will be run in accordance with Official Rules for BE 2012.

5. It shall be deemed a condition of entry that neither the organisers nor landowners northeir agents shall be held responsible for any loss, injury, damage to competitors, onlookers, their property, horses or ponies, howsoever caused.

CLASSES AND ENTRY FEES

6. Classes, timings, conditions of entry, course details, prizes, entry fees in advance andlate entry/entry fees on the day are as shown for each Class on pages 6 to 9. A 20 minute gap is planned between Classes. In the event of abandonment entry fees, less £5 per entry, will be returned.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES

7. Classes will be limited in number of entrants as follows:

a. Class 1 Open – 30b. Class 2 Novice – 150c. Class 3 Pairs - 40d. Class 4 Intermediate - 80

CLOSING DATE AND LATE ENTRIES

8. The Closing Date for Entries In Advance is Thursday 15th October 2015. After thisdate late entries will only be accepted during the period 19th to 22nd October 2015 provided there are places available in the Class (see paragraph 5). Fees will be charged at the late entry/entry fees on the day rate of £5.00 surcharge. Similarly, entries on the day of the Event will only be accepted provided that there are places available in the Class (see paragraph 5), fees will be charged at the late entry/entry fees on the day rate. If Classes become over subscribed the Secretary will notify entrants and, if required, operate a reserve list in order of receipt of entry.

a) Withdrawals. A proportion of the entry fee will only be refunded if a vet or doctor’s certificate is produced by 12 noon 16th October 2015.

DEFINITION OF SERVICE ENTRY

9. For service entries, the rider must be a serving member of the Regular Forces,Reserve Forces, University Officer Training Corps or the Police.

COURSE

10. In general the rules governing marking the course, definitions of faults and method ofjudging, are those given in the British Eventing (BE) Rules. There are, however, special rules for the Pairs Class and Timed Section, at paragraph 12 and 20.

11. There are three courses over fixed and portable fences, approximately 2.4 kilometres(1.25 miles) in length, on old downland turf. Details of each course are:

a) ORANGE for the NOVICE and PAIRS Classes - Fence height approximately 2' 6".b) PINK for the INTERMEDIATE Class - Fence height approximately 3'.c) YELLOW for the OPEN Class - Fence height approximately 3' 6".

12. Competitors will normally start as follows:

a) Singly in Classes 1 (Open), 2 (Novice) and 4 (Intermediate), at approximately twominute intervals.

b) As pairs in Class 3 (Pairs), at approximately two minute intervals.

13. All competitors are responsible for making way for and not impeding overtakingcompetitors. Inconsiderate riding leading to the obstruction of another competitor could lead to elimination, on a Fence Judge’s recommendation and the Technical Adviser’s decision.

14. Class 3 Pairs. Entries may be on the day (subject to the conditions in paragraphs 6and 7). Competitors will be judged on dressing at specific fences (identified by white discs) and on time.

15. Elimination and Retiring. Any competitor who retires, or is eliminated, must leave thecourse immediately at a walk.

16. Walking the Course. The course will be open for inspection on foot only, from 12noon to 1600 hrs, on Friday 23rd October 2015. Programmes and entry lists will be available from the Secretary’s Office in the Queen’s Building, from 8.00 a.m. on the Event Day. Numbers (deposit £5) will be available from 8.00 a.m. on the Event Day from the Secretary.

17. Directions. The event will be signposted from the C crossing entry onto Salisbury Plain, off the A345 (Upavon to Amesbury) road and also from the The Packway entry onto onto Salisbury Plain, off the The Packway (Durrington to Shrewton) road.

DECLARATIONS AND ORDER OF RUNNING

18. Competitors are to declare their intention to run to the Secretary and complete a cardfor the commentators, before obtaining their number bib and proceeding to the Collecting Ring.

19. Start Times. Starting times will be available on www.larkhillequestrian.co.ukfrom Thursday 22nd October 2015, 6 p.m. or by phoning the Entries Secretary (07990515434) 6-8 p.m. All riders will be allocated a number and approximate start time. Thereafter, timings will be posted in the Secretary’s Tent on the day. Competitors are to report to the Start mounted and ready to start by the times given.

SCORING

20. There will be no timed section. The course will be run on an optimum time, as shownfor each class, on pages 6-9. The optimum time will be published in the Secretary’s Tent on the day.

21. Penalties:

First refusal, circle, or run out at an obstacle ...………………………………..20penalties

Second refusal, circle, or run out at same obstacle ...…………………………40 penalties

Third refusal, circle, or run out at same obstacle ...……………………………Elimination

Fall of horse and/or rider at an obstacle ...………………………………………60 penalties

Class 3 Pairs – Dressing Fences: Horses more than one length apart (ie. daylight between the horses, when jumping or landing over a dressing fence) ..…….5 penalties

Omission of fence or boundary flag, error of course not rectified, retaking an obstacle already jumped (unless part of a combination), or jumping an obstacle, which is part of the course in the wrong order ...………………………………………………Elimination

Inconsiderate riding, obstructing another competitor, disobeying an order to stop ………………………………………………………Elimination

Note: Penalties are cumulative, eg. a first refusal involving a fall incurs 80 penalties.

22. Equality. In the event of equality, the combination closest to the optimum time for theirclass shall be the winner. There will be no subsequent placing; prizes/trophies will be shared if the class is drawn.

DRESS

23. Service competitors are to wear uniform, in accordance with unit standing orders anda high standard of turnout is required. All competitors are to wear a back protector, protective headgear (hard hat) to the specifications of PAS 015 or EN 1384 (recognised BETA Standard 1 - 3), with the harness correctly fitted.

24. Long hair is to be worn in a net, or secured in such a way, as not to hang below thecollar. Jewellery, or any items worn in facial, or body, piercings are not permitted.

QUERIES, OBJECTIONS AND APPEALS

26. Queries about scores must be made to the Director or Secretary. Objections andAppeals, which may be required to be in writing and accompanied by a £10 deposit, are to be made to the Stewards through the Director, within 10 minutes of the posting of results for the Class. The deposit is liable to be forfeited if the objection, or appeal, is considered to be frivolous.

PRIZE GIVING

27. All Prizes, Cups and Rosettes (1st - 6th places) will be presented by the Sponsors assoon as possible after the completion of each Class, less for the Novice prize, which will be presented following the completion of the Pairs event. The Event relies upon the generosity of the Sponsors and as a matter of courtesy, competitors with a chance of winning, are to make arrangements to receive prizes when called. They are to be smartly turned out and military winners are required to pay appropriate compliments. Failure to attend the prize giving will lead to the forfeiture of prizes by prize winners. Prize monies will be awarded by cheque.

PERSONAL INSURANCE

28. All competitors are reminded of the need for appropriate personal insurance to coverself, horse, equipment, property and personal liability.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

29. The Organisers of the Event have taken precautions to ensure the health and safety ofall who are present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers, Stewards and Officials. The wearing of appropriate headgear and back protection by all competitors, as described in paragraph 23-26, must be observed.

30. Qualified veterinary support and medical support, with ambulances, are provided forthe Event. Emergency Farrier cover is also available. These services can be requested at the Secretary’s Tent. The Event does not guarantee there will be immediate access to a farrier, or horse ambulance. Any veterinary or farrier services utilised shall be charged to and paid by the competitor.

31. Dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times. Please refrain from using extendableleads.

32. General Hazard Warnings for Salisbury Plain Training Area. The course and itssurroundings are sited on a MOD range and training area, where live ammunition has been used. Please observe the following precautions:

a. Approach and leave the course area using the signed routes and tracks. Do notstray away from these routes or the environs of the course.

b. Do not touch any suspected munitions or any unfamiliar objects, even if you thinkthey are safe or harmless. Any such objects sited must be reported to theSecretary’s Tent as soon as possible.

c. Be on the lookout for overgrown slit trenches, bomb craters, scrap metal, wireand trip flares.
