Best Practices

I

Title of the practice- Students Presentation Seminars Goal-

The College is in rural area. Hence, it has lack of facilities for developing students’

academic communication skills. Students in rural area lack communication skills. They are afraid of

expressing themselves in public. They have knowledge but due to lack of communication skills they are

unable to express themselves. They need encouragement and motivation along with proper platform and

activities to develop their communication skills. Hence, PG departments of the college conduct student

seminars. These seminars are made part of their formative evaluation. So students have to participate in

these seminars. These seminars are useful in developing their presentation and communication skills.

Objectives: After participating in these seminars, students are able to

• to communicate fluently

• to present ideas logically

• to improve their stage confidence.

The context – Students Presentations have been conducted for last four years. Students have to give

Power Point presentations.

The Practice- The student of PG (MA, MCom, and MSc) participate in Student presentation seminars in

which Faculty allocate topics to student. Students prepare these topics with the help of teachers and

deliver PPT presentations in class room in the presence of expert teacher. Students are given oral

feedback and suggested strategies to improve their presentation skills.

Problem: No such problems are encountered in organizing this activity.

II

Title of the Practice: Precision Weather Station

Precision Weather System gathers and automatically uploads accurate and detailed weather

data straight to your computer. Customizable recording interval settings allow users to capture and store

information via the data logger at selected intervals for improved usability in research and study.

Goal/ Objective:

a. To acquire scientific data of weather forecast and barometre for Geographical study and

Analysis for the teachers and students

b. To inform farmers in the vicinity about the rain forecast so that they can plan their

farming activities

c. To measure rainfall percentage and forecasting for better crop management

d. To measure wind speed and direction

34

K. K. Wagh Arts, Sci. & Com. College, Pimpalgaon (B) AQAR 2015-16

Context: Department of Geography has installed Precision Weather Station on 8th May 2014. Cost of the

instrument is 1,85,000/- Rs.

The Practice: This instrument measures weather condition automatically and precisely so it is called

Precision Weather Station. It measures Temperature, Humidity, Wind speed, Rainfall and shows wind

direction. The consol of the instrument saves data up to six months. We keep records in the form of hard

copy.

Evidences: We provide data and weather information to the nearby farmers, because it collects data of

9km periphery. The record of data shared with the farmers is kept in the dept.

Problems encountered: Form some days there was a problem of internet connectivity. During the

period, we could not keep the data.

III

Heritage Walk

Heritage Walks are the most common concept-driven walking tours at various heritage sites. The Dept. of

History organizes such Heritage walks for students and stakeholders at heritage sites in the vicinity. It

includes forts, historical places, museums etc.

Goal and Objectives: The Heritage Walk has the following objectives:

• To conserve the heritage sites in the vicinity

• To acquaint students and people about these sites and their significance

• To create awareness about conservation of the heritage sites.

Context: The Dept. of History has started Heritage walk since 2014. There are many forts, historical

places and important heritage sites in and around Pimpalgaon (B). Students need to have first-hand

experience of visiting these places and know their historical importance.

Practice: In the various Heritage walks organized, students had visited forts such as Dhodap, Indrayani,

Rajederwadi, kanchan-manchan, ramshej; numismatic museum and Vada, Rangamahal.

Problems: There were some problems regarding the authentic sources about these Heritage sites.
