Causes:

• Cervical cancer is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV)

• What is HPV?

– HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (like a cold or flu!)

– It is spread by skin to skin contact

– Both men AND women can get and pass on HPV

How do you know if you HPV?

• Often no signs or symptoms

• Most of the time, the body is able to get rid of the virus

• But if left untreated HPV can lead to more serious health problems, like cervical cancer in women

• That’s why it is important to get checked out!!!

What is a Pap Test?

• A Pap test a quick, simple test done by your doctor or nurse practitioner . During a pelvic exam, cells from the cervix are collected.

What is a Self-Sample HPV test?

• The self-sample HPV test is a quick and easy test you can take privately (at home)

• The test looks like a large Q-tip in a test tube

• This test looks for an HPV infection that could cause problems (high-risk)

Getting your results! • An “abnormal Pap test” result DOES NOT

mean you have cancer! It means there are some cells which are different from other cervical cells.

• Important to follow up with your doctor
